What to do in two days

I%26#39;m only in SF for two days. I want to see the GGB, Golden Gate National Recreation Area, Alcatraz, hangout at Fisherman%26#39;s Wharf and Pier 39.

Can anyone tell me how to get from Union Square to the above places?

The cheapest ways that is.

Thank you. you%26#39;ve been a great help so far.

Here%26#39;s a link to a thread about getting the trolley from the Wharf to Union Square - reverse the info!

From Fisherman%26#39;s Wharf you can go over to Alcatraz. Book in advance is you are going to visit during a busy time. Pier 39 is at the Wharf.

Maybe someone can suggest how to get to the GGB and Recreation Area from there. We did a trolley tour from the Wharf that took us there that was quite enjoyable.

That should read %26#39;if you are%26#39; not is!

What about Baker%26#39;s Beach? I heard it has great views of the bridge and that many people go there to take pictures.

Does anyone know how to get there?

?

To get from Union Square to Baker Beach, hop the #38 Geary bus outbound to 25th Ave. The #38L limited bus makes fewer stops and will get you there quicker.

At 25th %26amp; Geary, you can either wait for the #29 bus or hoof it. It%26#39;s about a mile walk but you%26#39;ll pass some nice $$$ houses. The walking route is 25th to Lincoln and then a right. The Beach is behind the parking area off of Lincoln.

US to GGB--take 38 Geary to Park Presidio Blvd (between 12th %26amp; 14th Ave). Transfer to the 28/Ft Mason bus (northbound). It stops at the toll plaza. From the toll plaza, take the 29. It stops at Baker Beach. $1.50. Take it back to Geary. Take the 38 west to Ocean Beach, or east, back to US.

GG Natl Rec Area encompasses Ocean Beach, the Presidio, and Marin Headlands. From the toll plaza, there is a free Presidio shuttle that can get go to points in the Presidio. A Marin trip requires a different approach. (not sure what your focus is).

US to Wharf %26amp; Pier 39--take F streetcar on Market toward the Ferry Building (east) $1.50 FW, Pier 39, and Alcatraz (Pier 33) are all in walkable proximity to each other. Alcatraz reservations are a must. If you have a couple of hours, you could walk to the GG Bridge from here.

If you only have two days and want to see much of San Francisco I think you should skip Alcatraz. That can take up to half a day by itself.

ok, thanks for the responses.

I thought Alcatraz was worth it even in a two-day trip. You can cover a lot of San Francisco in your remaining 1.5 days.

At Alcatraz it is a tape-recorded, self-guided tour so you can speed up or drag out your visit time somewhat.

Just my two cents!!!!!!!

I agree - Alcatraz was really interesting. Don%26#39;t skip it.
