Union Square or Fisherman's Wharf?

I%26#39;m looking for a hotel that%26#39;s in the middle of all the hustle and bustle of the city, my husband and I have been staying in a very quiet part of San Diego and would like a lively couple of days in SF. We are both 30, probably won%26#39;t actually go clubbing but want somewhere that has lots of bars, restaurants and atmosphere around it, we are only staying two nights so hope to book at least a four star hotel,

So which area and what hotel? can anyone help please?

I believe North Beach has a lot going on, maybe you could search in this forum for recommendations?

Here%26#39;s a link to a few accommodation links

and you could get feedback here at TA.

Fisherman%26#39;s Wharf is very touristy, depends how kitsch you like things :o)

I did the trip the other way around a couple of years ago.

Hotel Boheme seems to get good feedback here if you want that North Beach/walkable to wherever vibe.

Ebabe

Washington Square Inn would seem to be another good bet.

I%26#39;ll go away now LOL

You%26#39;ve gotten some decent recommendations for alternatives to Union Square or Fisherman%26#39;s Wharf, which, indeed, are not the only places to stay in SF. I don%26#39;t think you%26#39;ll find a 4-star hotel in North Beach, however.

Here%26#39;s the post we made on the perennial question, found in ';Inside San Francisco'; (buried in the ';San Francisco Overview'; on the lefthand navigation bar):
