Doubletree Sonoma Wine Country

Hi there,

My husband, daughter and I are travelling to check out the California Wine region and will be based at the Doubletree Rohnert Park from 30 July for 4 days.

AS our daughter is with us and is almost 4 has anyone got any suggested itineraries that can incorporate vineyards, art, relaxation and kid stuff so we can break up the day into things for all of us!

Also interested in any sights that may be on our route up from San Fran.

Are there any restaurants / vineyards that are an absolute no-no with a child in tow as we don%26#39;t want to offend anyone.

All help much appreciated.

There have been many, many suggestions and discussions involving what activities to do with kids (just plug in ';kids'; and ';children'; in the Forum search window). Also take time to read many of the recent ';trip reports'; since they inc. loads of great info. on itineraries, inc. wineries and restaurants. Since Sonoma is a large and very diverse county (and travel time can be significant from one point to another), it%26#39;s very hard to make recommendations w/o knowing more about what areas you want to visit (Sonoma Valley? Coast? Russian River? etc.) Visiting tasting rooms with young children in tow has also been quite a topic of discussion. The usual accepted protocol is for one adult to remain outside in the garden, patio, deck, exhibit area, etc. while the other goes in for tasting. The tasting room staff won%26#39;t have a prob. with the adult who%26#39;s tasting ducking out to offer samples to the one who%26#39;s with the youngster. The one rule is that anyone under 21 should remain out of the immediate tasting bar area.

Actually, I am sorry to tell you, if you are interested in wineries, Rhonert Park is not exactly in the wine region. It is the site of a California State University. That%26#39;s all. Don%26#39;t stay there.

You would be better off in Healdsburg, not too far north, where there are wineries and a lovely town with a plaza and tasting rooms and wineries near.

You will be very disappointed if you stay in Rhonert Park. Trust me..
