The red line subway will take you from Universal Studios, 1 stop to Hollywood and Highland in about 3 minutes. Faster than driving, just take the free shuttle from Citywalk to the subway station

Thank you! thats very helpful!

Well, our good friend Alex is a great asset to the L.A. Forum but he does exaggerate a little.

Here%26#39;s the side-by-side comparison for the taxi versus the red line metro rail from Universal Studio%26#39;s main gate to the corner of Hollywood %26amp; Highland (the center of Hollywood, on the Walk of Fame):

1. Via Red Line Metro Rail:

a. You must take a free tram from Universal%26#39;s main gate down the hill to the tram stop that is adjacent to the metro rail station on Lankershim Blvd. There%26#39;s good news and there%26#39;s bad news...

i. The good news is: The tram ride takes only 1 minute.

ii. The bad news is: The tram appears once every 15 to 20 minutes.

b. Upon arrival at the metro rail station%26#39;s tram stop, you must wait for the traffic signal and then cross Lankershim Bl to the entrance to the metro rail station. There%26#39;s good news and there%26#39;s bad news....

i. The good news is: The train ride from the Universal Station to the Hollywood %26amp; Highland station takes only 4 minutes.

ii. The bad news is: the trains run only once every 11 minutes. In addition, you must descend via escalator into the Universal station and, at Hollywood %26amp; Highland, you must ascend an escalator, cross the metro rail%26#39;s small lobby and ascend a second escalator to the street. This, all, takes time.

The cost of the metro rail tickets are $1.25 per person per ride or you may purchase a $5 DAY PASS which is good for unlimited rides on the metro rail and metro buses for the entire calendar day.

NOTE: If you plan to return to the Universal station, do not purchase your return ticket at the same time that you purchase your outbound ticket since all tickets expire 2 hours after they are purchased.

So, all in all, you%26#39;re looking at the following timetable if you transfer via the metro rail:

a. Average waiting time for the ';free tram'; -- about 8 minutes

b. Time to descend the hill, cross the street to the station and descend to the platform -- 2 mimutes

c. Avg wait time on the platform -- 5 minutes

d. Transfer time -- 4 minutes

e. Time to ascend the two escalators to the street -- 1 minute

TOTAL TIME: about 20 minutes at a cost of $1.25 per person (unless you%26#39;ve bought a DAY PASS).

Now, let%26#39;s look at the taxi option:

a. You must order a taxi by phone or pre-arrange it to pick you up. Be sure to tell it where you want to be picked up since there are 2 entrances to Universal -- one at the main gates to the amusement park; the other at the Universal Citywalk end of the property.

b. The ride to the corner of Hollywood and Highland (without traffic) will take about 10 minutes.

The fare including tip will be about $10 and the entire trip will take 10 minutes. No waiting (unless the taxi is late), no riding on trams, no escalators, no standing on subway platforms.

Your choice!

Thank you so so so much for such detail info! you rock!
