Weather and water temperature

Hello,

We are planning on going to a beach in CA (I am considering Oceanside too) in June or July 2008.

Can somebody tell me how is the weather like in these months? Is it warm enough to want to jump into the ocean? Are there nice waves for boogie bording?

THANKS!

Weather and water temperature

It is variable. We were there in July this year and yes - great weaves for boggie boarding and no fog. If fog is in, it can get cool but in the middl;e of the day weather is usually still great. Since you%26#39;re from New Mexico, expect it to be cooler, but fun.

There is reason why Huntington Beach is called, ';Surf City';. Of course there is great boogie boarding waves along with surfing waves and body surfing waves.

June is known for ';June Gloom'; meaning overcast in the morning with the marine layer burning off about 11:00. So, it isnt all ';sunny California'; in June. July is warm, and usually June gloom is gone.

The water is warmer too. so, try to come towards the end of June if you choose June.

The 4th of July week is absolutely crazy with tourists in HB. If you dont like crowds, wait until after it is over. If your looking for tons of things going on non-stop..then you will love HB that week. Just make sure you get reservations asap as that week books up really quick.

This year has been an anomaly as is still ';overcast'; until 10 am every day and it is the 3rd week of July. Now, last year, we had May Gray and June was sunny. So, it is hard to tell what 2008 will be like.

I will let locals comment on Oceanside. If you have any Huntington questions, just ask me.

Thank you for the helpful information!

Would it then be better to visit early August instead to increase the chances of warm temperature?

THANKS!

August is usually our hottest month of the summer in HB. And usually, the marine layer is completely gone in the mornings.

I was looking at archive temperatures and last year June was very low 70%26#39;s all month with hardly any marine layer. July was about the mid to upper 80%26#39;s all month. August was upper 70%26#39;s to mid 80s.

This year, it has been different. There weather has been disappointing (at least to me) June has been low 70%26#39;s with an overcast morning just about every day until 1pm. July has been mid 70%26#39;s as well with a marine layer still!

Since you are acclimated to the whether in New Mexico, I think you would be happier in August. I have family from Las Vegas and they think our June and July is chilly.
