Anaheim Base

Hi Listners. Staying in Anaheim for the obvious reasons, yet also want to see Hollywood ; Laguna Beach and San Diego. Would you recommend extending my hotel stay in Anaheim as a base and commute to either as oppose to hotel hopping. Suggestions. S.V.P.

This question is asked often, here on the Forum. If it were me, I%26#39;d ';hotel hop'; because, the ride on the freeway (interstate 5) is subject to traffic jams and it%26#39;s an ugly drive -- nothing to see for the most part. Why would I want to drive it back and forth almost every day?

You don%26#39;t indicate how long your vacation will be or how many days you plan to stay in each area. San Diego is about 2-1/2 hours from Hollywood (WITHOUT TRAFFIC) and about an hour or so longer during high traffic periods (between 6 and 9 in the morning and 3 and 7 in the evenings (Mon-Fri). Friday afternoon rush hour can actually start at 1:30 or 2:00.

I would ask how many days you are looking to spend in each area before I could give a thoughtful response. There are a number of things to consider, not the least of which is: ';What airport(s) are you flying in and out of?'; and ';What time of day will you arrive?'; In some cases, to avoid ';back tracking'; it%26#39;s helpful to fly into one airport and out the other.

For example, one possibility would be to fly into LAX, visit Hollywood and then drive to Anaheim for the night. Stay in Anaheim while you visit Disneyland and neighborhing Laguna Beach. Move to San Diego, visit San Diego and fly home from San Diego Airport.

Tell us more about your plans!

Sorry for the lacunae. This is our first family trip to California/DL/etc. We are DRIVING into SF July 26, leaving 28; driving PCH to some undetermined beddown (any suggestions) , trying to shorten the hop into Anaheim for the 29th. Staying at the Candy Cane Inn until August 2. have until the 5th, before we drive home. Wanted to see SD, but realize that given the time constraints, we cant see much more. Had originally allocated more time, but this has been truncated. Greatly appreciate any pearls of wisdom you may have for me. Thanks again
