My flight leaves around 9 pm on a Friday out of Long Beach Airport. We will be staying around Hollywood/Santa Monica. I am worried about the traffic. What time should we head down to that area and what can we do around there if we get there early. We will have a car. Thanks. I%26#39;ll be with 2 teens.
what to do around long beach airport?Long Beach airport is close to Long Beach - Long Beach aquarium, Queen Mary, shopping, restaurants, etc. You could make a day of it and leave around 2:00 p.m. and get there around 3:00. See the aquarium; have dinner on the Queen Mary (with view of the water), wander around the Queen Mary, and then leave in time to go to the airport for your flight home. Friday traffic can be intense in Los Angeles - not sure what day you will be driving - so it is good to have an early start. You can also go earlier and explore the beach areas of Hermosa and Redondo Beach and then wander down to Long Beach.
what to do around long beach airport?Long Beach is a very, very small airport. It has only ONE small terminal building. To give you an idea of how small it is, I drove from Hollywood to the airport at 5:20 am mid-week, last month, got there at 6:00am, parked in the discount lot (off of the airport grounds), took the shuttle into the airport, swiped my credit card in the Jet Blue kiosk to print my boarding pass, went through security and walked to my gate. I arrived at the gate at 6:11. That%26#39;s right, it took 11 minutes to go from the off-site parking lot to the gate. My flight departed at 7 and most people arrived at around 6:25. (It seems that everyone knows how uncrowded this place is).
There should be moderate traffic to the airport on Friday night. You do not indicate if you are dropping the car at a car rental office or at a parking lot but in either event, the airport is so small, you won%26#39;t need to afford much time for either. All in all, from Hollywood to the terminal shouldn%26#39;t take more than an hour. If you have to be at the airport at 8, leave Hollywood at 7.
BTW, the route from Hollywood to the airport (which I got from Mapquest.com) varies slightly depending on whether you are going to be parking in the off-site parking lot (which is north of the airport) or dropping the car at a car rental lot. In either case, there are a number of different freeways you need to take (3 or 4) so be sure to keep your wits about you and watch the signs.
If you will be dropping a rental car off, use LGB as the PLACE NAME of the destination (when using Mapquest to plan your route).
If you are dropping rhe car at the off-site lot, use
LAKEWOOD BL %26amp; CONANT STREET
as the destination. The lot is on the southeast corner of this intersection. (Enter off of E. Conant Street).
Good luck!
Thank you very much. The airport sounds so small. I hope it is safe. We are staying in Santa Monica but only have Thursday and Friday to see the area. My kids (15 and 17) nor I have been to the area and can%26#39;t decide what to do so we%26#39;ll probably just decide when we get there. (We are driving down from SF). The flight is at 9:30 and we do need to drop our rental car off. So, it sounds as if we are in HW or Universal it will take an hour. if we leave at 7??? We may continue down to see the beaches so it won%26#39;t be a problem. (or hang out in Long Beach) Is Knotts is close by?
Sorry. One more thing. Do the beaches around Redondo, etc have public restrooms, easy parking, etc?
Manhattan Beach is the first of the three beaches you come to, and the easiest to get to off the 405 Freeway, then Hermosa and Redondo. It has a large public restroom and showers at the base of their pier. Great place for teens. Public parking is at the pier (bring quarters) and easy access to restaurants and shops. It%26#39;s a half hour drive, with no traffic, to Long Beach Airport.
