Metro Map

Where can we get a MUNI map while in San Francisco? When we went to Chicago the Chicago metro headquarters mailed us a map upon request prior to our trip but no one (not even the officical tourism site and said they had none or MUNI it says on their site they won%26#39;t mail any) in San Francisco can send a map ahead of time (so we have been told). We are staying near Union Square on Pine St. Do the cable car drivers have maps for the Muni system?

Metro Map

This is one of the top five tourist destinations in the U.S. and you can%26#39;t get the map by mail. Isn%26#39;t that absurd?

You can buy it at the cable car ticket booths at Powell and Market Streets, Hyde and Beach Streets, or Bay and Taylor.

Check here for hours for all the ticket booths. You can also buy Muni Passports there, which give you unlimited rides (including cable cars) for a set time period.

You can purchase a MUNI map at one of their kiosks--the closest to you would be the one at Powell and Market. The maps are downloadable from the MUNI site, but I%26#39;ve found doing this isn%26#39;t as convenient to carry around.

I have a group of 5 teachers going on a girls trip and we all purchased City passes which includes Muni and cable cars but we needed a good map of the buses, electric streetcars and cable cars. I thought it was crazy that the tourism organization didn%26#39;t even have any to send by request (and it sounded as though if you went to their visitor locations they had no maps).

Thanks for the info!

You can print up your own maps online from their web site:

There are also schedules so you can preplan your travelling on the muni.

you can buy maps for $3 but they don%26#39;t mail order them from what the web site says.

I like the online maps, I can zoom in and print (or screen print) a detailed section of the whole map instead of trying to squint and try to find routes in a specific area of sf.

The next time I%26#39;m downtown, I might purchase a stack of these maps. And then if you prospective visitors want one, we could arrange for me to send it to you, for the cost of the map and postage.

What do you think of that?

:)

Maybe you can print from the following on

The FLAG/MAPS page geocities.com/touringsfo/…FlagMaps.html has links to the best on-line MAP of San Francisco, the outstanding WALKER/BICYCLIST map that shows the steepness of our streets. The new version of the formerly superb map created for the San Francisco Municipal Railway has removed many streets%26#39; names making it less useful. It%26#39;s cluttered with our many bus, cable car, street car, and bus routes. There is also a map of our CABLE CAR ROUTES, our 49-mile SCENIC DRIVE, and a superb map of GOLDEN GATE PARK.

I got mine from a newsstand. I am under the impression that all of the newsstands have them (?)

Roadrunner, your map idea sounds like a plan. My MUNI map was my most used purchase on our trip!

Too bad MUNI doesn%26#39;t have mail order maps.

Pug

Many news stands, bookstores, snack or smoke shops, etc. do carry maps of San Francisco.

Rand McNally, Thomas Bros., even AAA maps are all good. But the one and only official city transit map is the one made by Muni (Municipal Railway). It has the most current transit info, any street name changes or additions, commonly used local neighborhood names, etc. Also, it costs a lot less than some of the other maps that aren%26#39;t as current. The next best choice is the AAA map, but it doesn%26#39;t have the transit info.

The City is not responsible for the info on rivately published maps. If you see a City map for sale, look for ';Municipal Railway,'; or ';Muni'; and the City and County seal, which is round and shows the phoenix (mythical bird), an image of a ship coming into the harbor, and a miner and a sailor.

NO.

I meant I got ';THE OFFICIAL SAN FRANCISCO STREET AND TRANSIT MAP';, published by the San Francisco Municipal Railway at a newsstand. Yes I did.
