Hello People
We will arrive after a 11 hour flight mid afternoon on Mon 3rd Sept into SF, from the UK. After collecting a car and finding Chancellor Hotel in Union Sq (booked after your advice on here before), we need your help as to what to do next! We are leaving on the Wed to go to Yosemite.
We would like to see Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz, ride a Tram, the Crooked St, Castro District - I think that%26#39;s all we can do?
I figured that we would soak up Union Sq on Monday evening. Take the early trip on Tuesday, to Alcatraz as we will be up early with the time difference issue. After that, see GGB, and then what?
Any help, or suggestions would be gratefully received.
Anything we are missing that would be a crime not to see?
Thanks in advance!
Itinerary for 2 nights in SF for jetlagged couple - Help!
My suggestions for Tuesday. First, take a cable car (they%26#39;re not called trams here) from Union Square to Fishermans Wharf and take back toward Union Square after you%26#39;ve been to Alcatraz and the GG Bridge. Pick up a Powell-Hyde cable car at Victorian Park (across from the Buena Vista cafe--a great place for Irish coffee). Get off the cable car at the highest point on Lombard St. (the crooked street). Walk DOWN Lombard and from there it%26#39;s a fairly short and easy walk over to North Beach and Chinatown. These areas are must-sees particularly if you haven%26#39;t been to the City before. One fun thing to do is walk up Telegraph Hill to Coit Tower for spectacular views of the bay.
Whether or not you can go to the Castro on the same day depends on you. You could certainly go in the evening on Tuesday after Alcatraz, the Bridge, Lombard St., North Beach and Chinatown.

It might be an idea to collect your car after your stay in SF. Unless you know something I don%26#39;t, you won%26#39;t need the car to get to the places you%26#39;ve mentioned and it will probably cost around $30 for parking per night (plus the cost of rental).
Unless you have already arranged a car , or have any ideas about where to hire from I would either walk around the corner to Hertz on Mason Street or ask at the Chancellor for nearby rental depots. That way you save money on parking, and rental and you don%26#39;t need to drive after an 11 hour flight!!
Town cars, taxis and shuttles are all readily available at the airport. There%26#39;s also BART but I%26#39;m not familiar with whereabouts it would take you with regards to the Chancellor (I%26#39;m sure someone else will know)
Soaking up Union Square should keep you busy until bedtime, especially if you like people watching and shopping!!
There%26#39;s plenty of places to eat, my favorite is Lefty O%26#39;Douls for first night eats. Cheap and cheerful, but in a nice way... I think you can google the place for more info. Next to that is the Daily Grill which is a couple of steps higher on the hierarchy... I%26#39;m sure these are right around the corner from the Chancellor as the Chancellor is very close to where I have stayed in the past.
You could think about riding a tram back to Union square (via Lombard street, which I think you can get off near) after doing Alcatraz, GGB, Fisherman%26#39;s Wharf, Ghiradelli Square etc. That way I would imagine you%26#39;d miss the long morning/evening queues. Although if you%26#39;re up particularly early you may miss the queues, i think the trams run from around 6am?
Coit Tower (if you%26#39;re not too tired) is great. The views from up there are wonderful, but it is a bit of an uphill struggle to get there!!
I%26#39;m sure more suggestions will be on their way about things to do so I%26#39;ll leave you with those for now.
Enjoy

take a leisurely stroll through union square monday evening and head towards the financial district. there is an alley called belden that is wonderful.. it%26#39;s filled with restuarants, outdoor dining, great atmosphere. no hills there or back.
Thanks for your help with suggestions, I shall take them all with me and hope that I fit them all in! Coit Tower looks great, and we shall do our best to get up there.
