Hi,
Was just about to book the Hotel Del for Christmas 12/24 to 12/27 for my family (2 adults and 2 children 13 and 9) when I came across the Pacific Terrace Hotel.
They both look lovely but can%26#39;t decide which one to go for.
Can anyone help? We want somewhere which is fun for the children bearing in mind it is christmas but also somewhere that we will enjoy too.
Thanks
Hotel Del or Pacific Terrace Hotel
The 2 hotels have VERY different ambiance!! The Hotel Del is a resort complex on a quiet beach. There are at least 3 restaurants, pool, gameroom etc. AT Xmas there are decorations and special activities usually like Santas sleigh ride, a victorian high tea, craft making, and some sort of drama presentation etc.
The area of Coronado has the feel of a small town although 10min from downtown San Diego.
The Pacific Terrace is a very nice hotel on the beach in an area with a cement walkway for bikes/skates etc.and in an area where there are some low key beachy restaurants and bars.
Hotel Del or Pacific Terrace Hotel
Thanks riffsmom. I am really torn. I think my husband and I would like the Pacific Terrace Hotel more but feel as it is christmas the Del will be a lot lot better for the children.
I hate making decisions LOL

I wouldn%26#39;t make the decision based solely on the children%26#39;s Xmas . You will not be spending your whole time at the hotel and the city of San Diego has and ice skating rink downtown, decorations, decorated boat parades etc. In fact many people VISIT the HotelDel as part of their sightseeing so you could do that as well. Stay at the PacificTerrace and then GO to the Hotel Del to visit for Xmas eve or Xmas day.
Also our Old Globe Theater in Balboa Park does a wonderful performance of The Grinch Who Stole Xmas.

AND our downtown SanDiego Repertory Theater usually does a version of The Xmas Carol ,each year set in a different time and place.

Riffsie%26#39;s right, 2 completely different places, but both very nice.
If it was summer beach weather I%26#39;d go for Pacific Terrace to spend all my time at the beach; the hotel is small and would be less crowded.
At Xmas I%26#39;d rather be at The Del since the surroundings would be more festive and it has restaurants, shops, and more activities. PT doesn%26#39;t have a restaurant and on Xmas eve and day I wonder if some of the nearby restaurants will be closed or close early??
Coronado is very pretty, has a great beach and within close proximity to downtown, you can even take a ferry across the bay to get there. Consider an Old Town Trolley tour for a day of sight seeing with stops at several popular attractions and scenic areas. The Del is a stop so you can get on right there..
Thanks for all the advice. Have booked in at the Del for three nights from 12/24 to 12/27 and can%26#39;t wait.
Excellent choice, you can%26#39;t go wrong with the Hotel Del Coronado. One other thing not mentioned is the size of the beach at the Del - it is massive! Very deep and very long (by deep I mean the distance from the water to the hotel). Even though there will be a lot of tourists in town that week, you%26#39;ll have no problems enjoying the beach at the Del.
I would highly recommend taking the Old Town Trolley Tour, it%26#39;s a great way to see many different areas of the city. It actually makes a stop at the Hotel Del, so you can get on it right there.
Definitely take the ferry from Coronado over to downtown SD. If your children are boys, they would looooove to see the Midway aircraft carrier which is also downtown.
Enjoy!
Lucky you, I think you will LOVE the Del, we do! They also have an ice skating rink set up during the holidays which is cool, it%26#39;s really quite an experience to stay here, our 3 nights at the Del last December made for some very special memories for us. :)
