Hi,
we%26#39;re planning to go to Vegas for a few days in February and are wondering about visiting SF on the way - many friends have recommended it. Does it sound like a good idea? Or does anyone have any alternative ideas?
Thanks.
SF in Feb??
It%26#39;s not really clear to me what you mean by seeing San Francisco ';on the way'; means. San Francisco is in Northern California and Las Vegas is in southern Nevada, and there are several hundred miles in between.
So...On the way to what? Oregon? From whence are you coming? How many days do you have to spend?
It%26#39;s hard to tell if this is a good idea or a bad idea, or whether there are alternative ideas without any kind of parameters.
SF in Feb??
We%26#39;re coming from the UK, and it would be nice to see another part of the US seeing as we%26#39;re travelling all this way and don%26#39;t want to spend more than about 4 nights in Vegas. Obviously we will need internal flights. We thought about NYC but I think it might be a bit too cold and possibly quite snowy...
Your time frame is not really clear, but certainly a visit to SF would be a welcome respite from the glitz of Las Vegas. It%26#39;s only a bit over an hour by air. The contrast would be like night and day. You should allocate enough time however, at least 2 or 3 nights. If this doesn%26#39;t work, perhaps you could rent a car and explore Death Valley and/or the desert Southwest, perhaps the Grand Canyon. This is wide open country. Europeans love exploring the unique expanse of that area. But we would indeed be happy to have you come to our home as well.
Hia. I think a two city stop is a must. I will be spending a week in vegas then a week in SF. Flying direct to vegas then to SF then back to vegas for another direct flight home. Last time I did vegas /LA. I think 7 nights in vegas is plenty tho you will probably miss out on seeing some stuff. However you could do a day or two at The Grand Canyon from vegas? I think there will be plenty to do in SF to keep you happy and busy for a week! Oh and as an earlier poster said..... They are far apart! Another good alternative is doing SF/LV/LA for 4 nights each? Enjoy your trip :-)
Of course, MurphySmith, you should visit us!
The ';Don%26#39;t-miss SIGHTS in San Francisco'; page geocities.com/touringsfo/Articles/Sights.html has enough to keep you busy for nine 12.7-hour days. It includes links to your best sources of advice on WHERE TO EAT and, according to the Department of Health, WHERE TO NOT EAT here, the UseNet Group ba.food, and the quite-good sfSurvey/Tastyr and the comprehensive Yelp. It also has a WEATHER CHART with a link to current conditions.
Here%26#39;s ';A bit of non-gambling Las Vegas'; with about a dozen useful links: geocities.com/iconoc/Articles/LasVegas.html
My favorite hap%26#39;nin%26#39;s there: The Huck Daniel Revue and Blues Jam in the Stratosphere%26#39;s Images Lounge, Mondays at 22:00. It%26#39;s a blast that%26#39;s been happening since 1988, at the Stratosphere since 2001.
Huck Daniel%26#39;s Celebrity Jam in the Armadillo Club at Texas Station, Saturdays at 21:00. Good floor, few dancers.
A terrific 17-piece band plays at the Italian-American Social Club, on Sahara just past Eastern, Thursdays at 20:30. Nice floor; take a partner!
The Classic Jazz Band (née the Royal Dixie Jazz Band), an excellent sextette, plays Monday-Friday at the Gold Coast from 13:00-18:40. On Wednesdays and Fridays, additional dance space is provided.
I did the opposite in January, I flew from Heathrow to SFO and then flew to Las Vegas for a few days.
Vegas is great but San Francisco is one of the best cities in the world, it%26#39;s very European and very laid back, after Vegas you would probably need a few days of civility before getting the flight back to the UK.
You can get some great flight and hotel deals (LAS - SFO) on expedia.co.uk
February is the height of the rainy season although CA is experiencing a monumental drought. Let%26#39;s hope and pray it rains and rains this year, and snows in the Sierra!

Dig it.
