I need help planning a fun SF weekend

My boyfriend and I are coming into town Nov 16-18 and I%26#39;m at a loss at what to do. We%26#39;ve both been so busy that I really want these few days to be special yet totally social and fun. This is all I have....

1) Hotel- 200-300 a night is okay. We want to stay in a fun area, bars clubs, museums, restaurants etc (maybe Union Square East?)

2) Fun- Friday night we get in at around 11:30 so a bar near (or in) the hotel is probably the only bet.

Saturday I%26#39;d love to have dinner at a nice, local restauraunt and then go to a club or posh bar with a friend who%26#39;s stopping through town.

Also, I think we%26#39;ll see Rainmaker Saturday afternoon at ACT- anyone have any comments on the show? I heard its long- anyone have a better idea- awesome museum or small theatre/show/performance that doesn%26#39;t get enough attention?

Thank you SO much for any help!

The ';Don%26#39;t-miss SIGHTS in San Francisco'; page geocities.com/touringsfo/Articles/Sights.html has enough to keep you busy for nine 12.7-hour days. It includes links to your best sources of advice on WHERE TO EAT and, according to the Department of Health, WHERE TO NOT EAT here, the UseNet Group ba.food, and the quite-good sfSurvey/Tastyr and the comprehensive Yelp. It also has a WEATHER CHART with a link to current conditions.

Union Square ';East'; doesn%26#39;t exist but your best choice is Union Square. The consensus in this forum is the Chancellor.

Near is the Gold Dust Lounge, on Powell just below Geary, that%26#39;s fun and friendly.

How do you define ';nice';?

芦we%26#39;ll see Rainmaker Saturday afternoon at ACT- anyone have any comments on the show?禄

Not yet. We%26#39;re seeing it next Tuesday.

芦awesome museum禄

See URL above.

Try the URL below:

The frequently-updated SPECIAL EVENTS page has irregularly-scheduled music and dances as well as links to seven calendars of regularly-scheduled dances, a composite of five of them, and one of dance cruises and events around the world: http://geocities.com/dancefest/Specials.html The MUSIC section at the bottom of the page focuses on the best of jazz.

';Union Square East'; is not really a San Francisco neighborhood. It%26#39;s a name given to an area that is east of Union Square but the actual boundaries are kind of vague. I think hotels, restaurants, or other tourist businesses do this when they want to build up interest in their places even though they are 2-3 block from Union Square.

If I see ';Union Square East,'; my mind says FInancial District or Chinatown. If I see ';Union Square West,'; I%26#39;m gonna think Tenderloin.

The actual streets bordering Union Square are Post (300 block), Geary (200 block), Stockton (200 block) and Powell (300 block). There are some hotels right on the square, where you look right down on the park and the cable cars if you get the right room. Other hotels are just off Union Square but perfectly good.

What kind of museums do you like? The Museum of Modern Art is a few blocks south (walk or take cable car), and the interim Academy of Sciences and Steinhart Aquarium are near it. The Asian Art Museum is in Civic Center to the west (short bus ride or moderate walk through a not-so-nice neighborhood).

There are good rates for your area at the Orchard Garden Hotel near the gates to Chinatown at Bush %26amp; Grant. www.theorchardgardenhotel.com/index.php

The Irish Bank bar is a cool scene that would still be open (last call about 1:30 a.m.) across the street from the hotel in the alley called Mark Lane - see image: http://www.theirishbank.com/images/map.gif

Wow- thank you, thank you!

As for the restaurant- we%26#39;re celebrating a friend%26#39;s birthday (but they%26#39;re from Texas so they doesn%26#39;t know where to go either.) Will be 6-7 people. Most of us aren%26#39;t able to spend outrageously but 75-100 dollars per person including drinks is acceptable. i%26#39;d love something that has really good food and a nice atmosphere over a trendy place, also somewhere where we can hear each other talk. Also maybe somewhere near to a night club or something- any fun clubs you know of in the area?

Thank you all for the suggestions- I%26#39;m sure we will have so much fun! Let me know if you ever have any questions about the oh so exciting city of Palm Springs....

OK, here I go again, offering coupons that no one seems to want, since ObsidianSnow has suggested the Orchard Garden Hotel, which is marketing itself as California%26#39;s first LEED certified ';green hotel.';

I have a 10 percent off the best available rate coupon (or upgrade to next room category), from Green Zebra. No, I don%26#39;t work for Green Zebra or Orchard Garden, I merely have a coupon book full of coupons expiring Dec. 31, 2007.

If you want it, please, respond via personal message with an address for me to send it to. It must be presented at check-in.

And remember re Saturday night dinner with six or eight people: Book ahead or be prepared to go early if you cannot settle on a restaurant.

I go to SF once a year for business and always of course combine it with pleasure. I always stay at the Villa Florence, which I LOVE, it is on

Powell at union square, a lovely small boutique hotel with really comfy beds, nice linens, great helpful staff and complimentary wine reception every night.

Luella on Hyde/Green www.luellasf.com -- they have large roundtables and I could hear my friends just fine. Downhill going west is Polk Street with bars between Green to Post streets - including The Buccaneer, Shanghai Kelly%26#39;s, Red Devil Lounge, Tonic, Amelie, Hemlock, Lush Lounge, Bigfoot Lodge, and O%26#39;Reilly%26#39;s Holy Grail

The Mission is much too trendy, in my opinion.
