For walking to bars and restaurants, you can%26#39;t beat the Best Western Sunset Plaza%26#39;s location. It%26#39;s a perfect place to be for New Years Eve.

Definitely nix Bev Hills Plaza. Elan Modern is a contender, though, if it fits your budget better, it%26#39;s also a good location.

I would also pick Best Western Sunset Plaza for your needs. Beverly Hills is quiet at night, so not walking distance to any bars. Elan Modern is not walking distance to the bars, but a short cab ride away - it%26#39;s close to shopping.

The Beverrly Hills Plaza isn;t in Beverly Hills. It%26#39;s on a residential stretch of Wilshire Bl -- between Beverly Hills and Westwood. The only thing you can walk to is a country club and a bunch of high-rise apartment and condo buildings.

Of the remaining 2, the Sunset Plaza is on the Sunset Strip. This is in the middle of the one most popular nightlife areas in L.A. The only businesses on the STRIP are a few boutique stores along with lots of restaurants, clubs and hotels.

The Elan Modern is also in a popular area but it is more varied in its environment. There is more shopping (of the ';everyday'; kind -- two malls including the gigantic Beverly Center Mall). The hotel is within a few blocks of lots and lots of restaurants (many of which have bars in them. There are no clubs that I can recall).

You will have a great time in either area -- the Sunset Strip will be a little more lively, though. The Elan, on the other hand is a superior hotel to the Sunset Plaza. More of a 3-1/2 star property -- only 50 rooms.

Thanks for your advice, my friend who has been to LA seems to think i should stay in santa Monica, (Nicer area?) how does the embassy suites in santa monica compare to the elan and best western in terms of location etc.. We have a car

Im going to have to focus and book soon, !!

Thanks again for your help

Santa Monica and West Hollywood are pretty similar, only Santa Monica has the beach. So if you are looking to hang out closer to the beach, Santa Monica should be your choice. Either way, both places are very nice areas

Given that you%26#39;ll be here over New Years, I suggest the Best Western Sunset Plaza, still. Santa Monica is sort of sleepy on NYE.

And keep in mind that December is winter in Los Angeles -- not ';beach weather';. It%26#39;s also on the western edge of L.A. so if you plan to do some touring, you%26#39;ll be driving more than if you stay in a more central location.

Well not last year. It was absolutely gorgeous. On Christmas day it was about 21 celsius.I was sunbathing! I was driving with the top down from 10:00 to 16:00.

So let%26#39;s keepour fingers crossed for the same weather this. I will be flying in on 23 December. Staying at the Renaissance Montura for 1 night than the manhattan Beach Marriott onwards to Palm Springs and San Diego and back at LA for the last 2 nights sataying at the Angeleno.

Thanks for your advice im going to book best western
