Does anyone happen to know if the WGA strike will affect The Ellen Show and Craig Ferguson? I know Ellen uses writer%26#39;s, but in theory she could probably modify the show a bit (12 minutes of dancing, perhaps?) and write her own material. I guess I%26#39;m curious if she (or other shows that could that) would try it or would it be considered something like ';crossing the picket line';.
I%26#39;m also wondering if anyone thinks shows will still be taping the second week of December of if they will be shut down by then. I see scheduled tapings, but I didn%26#39;t know if they had enough scripts stockpiled to tape through the end of the year.
I%26#39;m sorry if this seems off-topic, but I%26#39;m coming to LA December 8-13, so I%26#39;m wondering what I might or might not be able to get tickets to!
Writer's Strike - show tapings?
Talk shows would not be taping.
It is too soon to tell what will be happening in Dec. Hopefully it will be resolved by then.
Writer's Strike - show tapings?
There%26#39;s absolutely no way to know what will happen in December.
Last major strike, the hosts went on with the show, anyway. They wrote their own opening monologues, etc.
December is a world away in terms of the strike, but I do know Ellen canceled the recent taping of her show in support of the WGA. She%26#39;s a member of the guild and uses guild writers.
In the past, talk show hosts like Letterman who%26#39;ve had to deal with writers%26#39; strikes do eventually start taping again, albeit with more interviews and shorter monologues. (That%26#39;s what happened back in %26#39;88). I can%26#39;t see any way DeGeneres or Ferguson could be off the air until December, so I assume they%26#39;d have to begin taping soon.
Most talk shows are going into re-runs as of today. Jay Leno, Letterman, etc. Ellen, I think, has a few scripts to get her by for a week or so, but will be going into re-runs as well. They are saying it will be a long one, but no one knows for sure. Plan on no tapings in December, and maybe we will get lucky and it will be resolved by then.
From what i understand is that most shows will not be taping at least for a week or so, but might be back later this month. The reason is that while most hosts support there writers, there are a lot of other people (technical and production crew) that also do not get paid during a strike, although they have nothing to do whith the writers guild.
So you might see the tonight show or ellen with a different format, no monolog - more celeb guests
But as mentioned before, expect no show tapings and you might get a surprise and will be able to see the shows you wanted
After canceling Monday%26#39;s taping, Ellen taped a show on Tuesday, without a monologue.

you would think the world ended the way the local TV stations are covering this.
