We booked a trip to Anaheim next week.
Does anyone know how things are in the Disneyland park?
I%26#39;d appreciate comments from everyone. Especially from those that have visited the park recently or nearby surroundings.
Please let us know when you visited the park and how was your experience with any smoke.
If there is any news as to when the smoke is expected to clear, please let us know about that also.
It is sad what is happening in So Cal right now. Thanks in advance to anyone who can take the time to post something here.
How is Disneyland air quality because of Southland fires?
Hey,
I just called our hotel in Anaheim to make sure everything is fine for our upcoming trip. The front desk said everything was fine, and they couldn%26#39;t even smell smoke.
Granted he was inside, and he might be giving me a positive spin, but he certainly didn%26#39;t seem concerned.
How is Disneyland air quality because of Southland fires?
I doubt he was telling the truth about the smoke.
They are saying that the fires should be contained by Sunday and the winds are now blowing on shore from the ocean. Thus by next week it should probably clear up.
We got back from DL on late sunday night, the fires had just started the night before, but during the day on Sunday the wind was blowing ashes all over the place. Our hotel pool had a film of ash on the top. We had sat down for lunch at the Trattoria restaurant in California Adventure and within seconds our water glasses had ashes floating inside.
I%26#39;m in San Bernardino County. We have had ash and smokey air from the mountain fires. I can relate to the idea of ash at a patio restaurant because I ate outdoors at the Mission Inn in Riverside on Tuesday. Honestly, although the air is not it%26#39;s best and you see some tiny to small ashes on tables or on the ground, in a pretty or nice setting it%26#39;s sort of easy to overlook. It%26#39;s not like the movie Volcano or anything.
I can%26#39;t say what it%26#39;s like in Anaheim, but there are three fires - not just one now and a reporter said in the morning yesterday that the smoke settled down over all of Anaheim. I think somewhere between the sensational words of news reporters and the encouraging words of rob%26#39;s hotel rep. lies the truth. I really doubt there is a thick layer of smoke, but if you are not used to residual smoke from fires it might really bother you. One thing to keep in mind, imho, for OC is the fires are in the hills above the canyon and the canyon is not close to Anaheim Resort and Disneyland.
The offshore flow is helping. In fact, I saw a report that most of the smoke from LA and OC fires got pulled into Long Beach and has settled there. Don%26#39;t know whether to believe that or not. We are (or were?) expecting a small amount of rain this weekend, so we hope that happens to clean out the air. A large amount of rain would be bad, though, and make a threat of mudslides - but it was just light rain predicted.
I%26#39;m sure that Disney and most hotels are doing everything possible to keep things clean - such as waterways in the park and pools. I guess, because we live with fires from time to time, I take it for granted that things will quickly be back to normal for the hospitality business in those of us who were spared the sadness and disruption of losing our homes. If you are planning a side trip to San Diego, that%26#39;s a different story, though.
Here is a website for area weather that also lists the air quality (in the lower right of the webpage), in case you want to keep track.

Here%26#39;s a portion of the email I got today after emailing Disney about conditions:
';Due to the wildfires occurring in Southern California at this time, we are especially mindful of the safety of our Guests and Cast Members, which continues to be our highest priority. According to the SCAQMD (South CoastAir Quality Management District), currently the air quality in the city of Anaheim is ';Moderate';. The Weather Service is predicting that the strong Santa Ana winds will diminish this afternoon and a gradual cooling and moistening trend will begin; bringing with it improved air quality in the coming days. At this time, all airports in Southern California (including Los AngelesInternational/LAX, John Wayne/Orange County, Ontario, Long Beach, and SanDiego) are operating as usual. Attractions in the Los Angeles/Orange County area, including the Disneyland.Resort, are open and operating as normal. Fires in San Diego have affected the operation of some attractions in thatarea (including the San Diego Wild Animal Park, Old Town Trolley %26amp; SEAL Tourand SeaWorld Adventure Park, which are closed).';
We%26#39;re starting to get some of the smoke here in Las Vegas...for the first several days it was blowing out to the coast...now it%26#39;s coming inland. I think by next week though, alot will have dissipated. Air quality may be an issue for you though if you have someone prone to asthma or allergies...you may want to make sure you have your medications carried with you at all times.
Other than that, expect Disney to treat you as well as any other day. They are pro%26#39;s at making you feel special. Have a great trip : )
I would think by next week the air would be better. It has gotten really bad down in south Orange County, but we are getting smoke from the fire in Santiago and the fire in Camp Pendleton. The air is rated as unhealthy for everyone in the inland south county areas like Lake Forest, Irvine, Mission Viejo, Rancho Santa Margarita, etc... My kids%26#39; school district closed down today and tomorrow due to all the smoke and the bad environment.
Anaheim is all north of these areas and the only people that will find the ash smell unbareable are ones that have asthma and sensitive lungs. Anaheim does not have nearly the amount of smoke as the south. My parents are in Placentia, not far from Disneyland and say they have noticed little smoke smells.
Next week, all areas, even fire close ones should be better. The fire is moving out of Orange County and into Riverside. The mountains should provide a break and the fire fighters should be able to contain the fire in the coming week since the winds have died down.
I would go to Disney and remain optimistic. You%26#39;ll have a great time!
I work only minutes from Disneyland. I park my car outside each day only to retur to a car covered in black and white ash! As for people commenting that they can not smell smoke... My best guess is that we are becoming ammune to it.
Local businesses are struggeling to survive because business is down. People are staying indoors.
On another note: My kidsschool was closed today, and when it was open the kids have not been allowed to go outside for recess. Maybe this helps with a greater understanding of what is happening here.
If Disneyland was indoors I would still recommend visiting here, or if this is a once in a lifetime oppertunity to visit Disneyland, I would%26#39;nt miss it... but wear doctors masks.. (Don%26#39;t worry about looking silly. Everyone that walks outside is wearing one)
I hope this post helps someone! Thanks for reading it!
I live a few miles from DL. Our school district has cancelled all outdoor activities thru Sunday. All city, etc. sports are cancelled. My eyes and throat are very irritated despite being indoors most of the time.
