we will be arriving at LAX from Vegas on Nov 11th and staying at the Georgian Hotel Santa Monica for 4 nites.....just wondering whats our best option to get there????......how much for a cab etc.........also need to know if we need to hire a car for our few days in SMonica............dont fancy negotiating the LA traffic!!!!!!!

LAX to Santa Monica???

A cab from LAX to the Georgian would be about $30.

You won%26#39;t need a car if just visiting Santa Monica, you can do most things on foot, or take the great Tide Shuttle to get to Venice and around SM. Public Transport in SM is very good. But, if you want to visit Hollywood, best to get a car. Your hotel will help you with finding a rental, there are many agencies in SM, many will deliver the car to you.

LAX to Santa Monica???

If you will be staying in just Santa Monica, then you can do it without a car. Though 4 nights is probably too much for just that area and you should check out the rest of LA. A cab from LAX is only 15-20 mins, so it will be around $25. Traffic is only an issue on weekdays during rush hour, 7-10am and 4-7pm. If you avoid driving at those times, you should be fine driving. It would be a shame not to see the other great parts of LA. Definitely make time for the Getty, Malibu, Hollywood, Beverly Hills, etc. You can try to get around on buses, but many of these trips will be an hour each way from Santa Monica.

get a car ... if I%26#39;m able to drive in Dublin, you should have no problems driving in LA.

I agree, rent a car. I%26#39;ve driven in Dublin several times, and it%26#39;s crazy there too! You can do it. You will want to get out and see the sights, after a day in Santa Monica. Have fun.

Just curious, why is it so crazy to drive in dublin?

Besides the fact that they drive on the ';wrong'; side on narrow roads (outside of the highways), have these nifty traffic circles (which are ok if you know where you%26#39;re going and not looking at a map), and shift with their left ... nothing! I quite enjoyed driving there ... much better than driving in Italy.

Nothing against Ireland, my grandmother was born there, but driving in Dublin is very difficult and confusing. Many one way, narrow streets, ancient street designs, poor traffic management. Gridlock from the airport to the city. We%26#39;ve seen cars drive up on a sidewalk to get around another car in the street. In fact, we%26#39;ve never rented a car that still had hubcaps. They fall off all the time, getting scraped on narrow lanes and bushes, and the rental companies don%26#39;t bother replacing most of them. Also, they drive on the left side of the road, so that adds to our problems. And that works in reverse when they visit us.

Driven all the major cities in Europe, so they aren%26#39;t the only one with traffic. Nothing would keep me away from Dublin, however.
