Alcatraz Night Tours and Hotels

Are the night tours better than the day tours at The Rock?

Also, which of the Marriott properties are closest to Fishernan%26#39;s Wharf?

Thanks.

There is a Marriott at the Wharf. It isn%26#39;t right on the main streets of Jefferson or North Point like, say, the Radisson or Argonaut, but it is right on the edge on Columbus Ave.

As for Alcatraz night vs. day tour, that really depends on what you like. It%26#39;s like asking which is better, Yellowstone or Grand Canyon.

The night tour is often described as more atmospheric. You get a more realistic idea of what doing time might be like, sitting there in the dark for 25 years looking at the lights of San Francisco across the Bay. You also see some areas that are not on the day tours. Your time on the island will be shorter; on all tours, you take any boat returning to S.F., but the last one is at 7:50 p.m.

You can compare the various tours on the Alcatraz Tours website.

BTW, this is the only company under contract with the National Park Service to provide ferry service to Alcatraz. Others might advertise tours, but you won%26#39;t get a complete tour and often you%26#39;ll just ride around the island. This one is the authorized provider.
