We enjoyed a Champagne Sunday Brunch at the Top of The Mark in San Francisco last year.Do any of the hotels In LA offer something similar ? As we will spend a Sunday in LA during our 2008 visit it would be great to do it again.
Sunday Brunch? Many hotels offer Sunday brunch, and they%26#39;re all great. Where are you staying, and will you have a car?
Personally, I think that nothing is better than brunch at the Getty Museum (Brentwood), it%26#39;s so beautiful there. But hotels like Bel Air, Ritz Carlton, Viceroy - all offer great brunch.
Sunday Brunch? Thanks, We are staying at the Intercontinental %26amp; will probably have dinner at the Getty but might consider it for brunch. We are not hiring a car ( I know it%26#39;s a daft idea ) but it is not a cost issue just a really don%26#39;t want to fight through LA traffic issue even if it takes just as long in a taxi. Will look up some of the ideas.
Taxi is fine as long as you can afford it. Just be aware that each trip one-way will cost you anywhere from $20-60. LA is very spread out, unlike SF which is very compact with taxi rides costing only $5-12 and very good public transportation. There is no traffic to fight if you%26#39;re not driving during rush hour, 7-10am and 4-7pm. Consider buses too if you don%26#39;t mind long rides for some trips.
I would also highly recommend brunch at the Getty. If the weather is nice, it would be much nicer for brunch outside as it gets chilly here at night.
Beverly Hilton has a good brunch. I would also consider brunches at some hotels in Santa Monica like Casa del Mar.
Other good options would be in Malibu, at any of the restaurants along the beach like Geoffrey%26#39;s, Gladstone%26#39;s, Moonshadow%26#39;s, etc. However, once again, this would be a far cab ride. The closest places to your hotel would be around Beverly Hills.
Also, the Four Seasons in Beverly Hills on Robertson has a fantastic brunch. Check that out, too. One of my favorites.
Thanks for all the suggestions everyone. I see that rush HOUR can last for 6 hours- the very reason cars don%26#39;t seem to be an attractive option for me. I have no illusion that LA will be similar to San Francisco but looking forward to the contrast.
One suggestion is Hotel Bel Air in Beverly Hills

Its different than Top of the Mark but definitely a great place to have a wonderful lunch enjoying the Southern California spirit. Beatiful place and good food.
I love Sunday Bruch, here is my little list of places
LUXE HOTEL
11461 Sunset Blvd - Los Angeles
A beautiful courtyard, live jazz, unlimited champagne and visits to the buffet, all for $21.95. Probably one of the most fun places to enjoy your Sundays!
EL CID
4214 Sunset Blvd - Silverlake
El Cid is a L.A.Institution and there brunch is basic, but the patio setting and live jazz makes up for the food.
THE GETTY
1200 Getthy Center Drive - Brentwood
It%26#39;s a little work to get there, parking, taking the tram up to the hilltop, waiting for seats, but of course you will get rewarded with great food and some incredible vistas!
THE GRIDDLE CAFE
7916 Sunset Blvd - West Hollywood
The Griddle is packed every Sunday Morning with the hip and cool Hollywood crowd, dont be surprised to see people in there evening outfits, as they come from various clubs around town. $25
TOAST
8221 W.3rd Street - Los Angeles
Cellphones are the standard here. It%26#39;s the place for the young Hollywood Exec crowd. Food is great and California Healthy!
HOTEL BEL AIR
701 Stone Canyon Road - Bel Air
Probably the most beautiful setting in L.A. for brunch, of course it wont come cheap ($48) , so make this a brunch spot for special occations!
WHIST @ THE VICEROY - Santa Monica
1819 Ocean Ave - Santa Monica
You can choose between the Champagne Brunch ($49) or Non Champagne ($39), in either case, the presentation is incredible. Plus the food tastes as good as it looks like!
There is also a very crazy bar scene, even on Sunday afternoons!
LOEWS
1700 Ocean Ave - Santa Monica
Lounge, Eat by the pool, overlooking the Santa Monica Pier and Pacific Ocean. Buffet even includes Sushi, Caviar and Poached Salmon($45, includes unlimited Champagne)
Request outside seating, it is worth the extra wait!
Btw, traffic is not THAT bad. L.A.%26#39;s streets are big and the signage is excellent. It is hard to get lost. The 101,10 and 405 fwy are notorious but you can avoid them by taking surfacestreets, which is nicer anyhow if you are on vacation and exploring the city
My mom is from germany and hates driving in europe, but loves to drive in L.A. . Maybe get a car for a day and see how it goes. You can take taxis or buses the rest of the time if your experience driving around was bad. I would try it at least though
Great list Alex, might look at having brunch in Santa Monica as we intended spending a day there.
