Hi,
I%26#39;ll be in Carmel, Monterey, PG and just when I think I%26#39;ve found a place to stay, I read reviews and get completely freaked (worst hotel ever, moldly, musty, cold food, etc.) Any recommendations or advice? I%26#39;d like to be walking distance to the beach and in the $150 range (maybe that%26#39;s the problem????) I%26#39;d also prefer an inn over a hotel.
Thanks in advance.

A lot depends on when you%26#39;re coming. If it%26#39;s anytime between, say, mid-September/October and May, you should have no trouble finding a nice place to stay. $150 is possible, although if you could stretch that to $200, you%26#39;d have more options. If you%26#39;re planning to come between now and October, you may have trouble finding something.
Anyway, have you checked any B%26amp;Bs in Pacific Grove or Carmel? In PG, check Green Gables Inn, Martine Inn, Seven Gables Inn--all across the street from the water. A few blocks up from the ocean are Old St. Angela%26#39;s Inn and the Gosby House Inn. Another option in PG is Andril Fireplace Cottages--very nice self-contained cottages in a very pretty setting within a walk of Asilomar Beach.
In Carmel, you can consider Wayside Inn, Colonial Terrace, Sea View Inn, Lamplighter Inn.

Hi there!
Try Asilomar Conference Center: www.visitasilomar.com.
I think it is within your price range and it is in a beautiful setting.
Enjoy!
Thank you for your help. I did call the Old Angela Inn and booked there. Earlier I tried Asilomar Conference Center and they were full! You have saved the day! Thank you so much!
In a minute I%26#39;m also going to ask something about the possibility of public transportation from Santa Cruz to Pacific Grove. Any ideas? Does this exist?
Ahgee
It%26#39;s not easy. To my knowledge, there is nothing that goes directly from Santa Cruz to Monterey, much less Pacific Grove. You can take a Greyhound Bus from Santa Cruz to Salinas and then a local MST bus (www.mst.org) from the Salinas Transit Center to downtown Monterey, and then another MST bus to downtown Pacific Grove. One thing I%26#39;m not sure about--I did a search and couldn%26#39;t find the exact info--is how far it is from the Greyhound station in Salinas to the Salinas Transit Center. I%26#39;m sorry it%26#39;s so complicated. I%26#39;m sure there%26#39;s some good reason why we don%26#39;t have better access via public transport, but I have no idea what it is! Good luck.
Californians LOVE their cars, that%26#39;s why public transportion outside of major metropolitan areas is lacking.
Thank you for your help. I%26#39;m now really excited about my trip.
Ahgee
Yes, no public transportation between Santa Cruz and the Monterey Peninsula, except the route that PGDenizen gave you. We do have a Greyhound bus station here, however, if you can figure out the Greyhound schedules. It is beyond me %26lt;grin%26gt;.
