If you have used this service down to Santa Barbara can I please have some honest opinions. Also, altho the bus goes from Union Sq to Oakland in order to catch the train, can we get a taxi, if so - how much will it cost %26amp; what time should we leave to catch the 8.50am? Also, can someone tell me the difference between a ';reserved thruway seat';, a ';reserved coach seat'; and a ';lower level coach seat';. Thanks.
Amtrak to Santa Barabara - good or bad?*Reserved thruway seat* is a bus seat. *Reserved coach seat* is anywhere on the train except the sleeper cars. *Lower level seating* is on the first level of the train and usually reserved for handicapped or eldery.
The train ride to SB is relaxing with some lovely scenery....however, it does not have a good *on time* performance so prepare to arrive in SB later than scheduled.
I%26#39;m not sure but I think a cab ride to Oakland will cost about 50 or 60 dollars and suggest you leave your hotel around 8 am. On a Sunday morning, without traffic, it should only take about 15 to 20 minutes.
Call Amtrak (1 800 USA RAIL) when you get up in the morning for updated info re your train arrv. and dep time from Oakland.
