Where to stay as a hooneymoon couple

Hi,

My name is Jason %26amp; my fiancee %26amp; I will be spending 2 nights in LA on our way through to San Francisco from via Las Vegas. Can anyone recommend a nice hotel for us to stay in an area that will be close to the tourist area of Hollywood %26amp; Beverley Hills. We do not have to stay right amongst it all as we will have a car. We want to stay somewhere that has some life %26amp; plenty of choice for bars %26amp; restaurants of an evening. All within walking distance, we will not arrive in LA until mid afternoon our first day %26amp; will have a full day for our 2nd. Our arrival date in LA is the 6th September staying until the 8th September. Also can anyone advise how long it will take me to drive to Cambris from LA on a Saturday morning %26amp; the best route to take?

Many Thanks,

Jason.

Hi Jason, congrats on your upcoming marriage. What type of budget did you have in mind for a hotel?

It is about a four hour drive - possibly shorter. Depending on where you are staying in Los Angeles will dpeend on your route, but I suggest take highway one up the coast to Oxnard and cutting across to the 101 and then staying on the 101 until you arrive. It is a nice drive. You can also take the 405 to the 101 - will save about 20 minutes driving time, but you miss driving through Malibu and some nice ocean views.

From what you are looking for, I would suggest the Hollywood area. Close to a lot of sighseeing and bars/restaurants/clubs(you can walk to most places from almost any hotel)

Check the hotel reviews on here, you should find a nice place in the area around $200/night

If it fits your budget, stay at the Renaissance Hollywood Hotel. It%26#39;s in the middle of all the tourist attractions in Hollywood. Congratulations!

Thanks guys,

My budget is around $200-$250, If I can find somewhere cheaper that is recommended then great. But I guess this LA %26amp; like NY I found out that decent hotel rooms will come at a price.

Jason

You may want to consider the Best Western in West Hollywood -prices vary. Its walking distance to lots of night life.

Pasadena is also a good area to stay...lots of night life. We just stayed at the Marriott Courtyard (week day rates about $190 week-end rates $130.00 range. We found this place great to walk to places; easy to get on the freeway to drive to Hollywood and Beverly HIlls. We were there 3 days and also went to Long Beach Anaheim and Huntington Beach from there so central to most things.

They are doing some redo of some of their public places...but they%26#39;re doing it fast and its still nice.

Also check the Magic Castle Hotel in Hollywood...we stayed for about $230 a night. Prices can again vary.

Hi,

I had always intended to say thanks for all your advice, but sorry for the long delay. We have now been home from our honeymoon for what seems like ages, it is probably not even two months.

In the end we liked the look of the Ranaissance Hotel on Hollywood Boulvard. We could not fault the hotel %26amp; the complex it is situated on.

Unfortuantely Hollywood did not live up to our expectations. We did not arrive until late afternoon, by the time we checked in %26amp; had a freshen up it was early eveniing by the time we ventured out for dinner. We lasted about 30 minutes %26amp; ended up going back to the hotel for dinner as we did not feel safe on the streets at all. We walked up the Boulevard in both directions %26amp; there was alot of unsavoury characters hanging about. If I had been on my own or with friends I may have lasted longer. But new wife did not feel safe %26amp; wanted to head back.

The following day was much better, we still thought Hollywood Boulvard looked very dirty %26amp; grimy %26amp; not what we expected at all. In the UK Hollywood is painted in a much better glitzier light. To us it looked very sleazy %26amp; dirty.

We did do a tour of Beverly Hills %26amp; the rest of LA which we did enjoy very much. There are so many better area%26#39;s in LA than Hollywood. Our favourite was Santa Monica which was beautiful.

Fortunately Hollywood has not put us off LA, we want to return %26amp; spend more time in Santa Monica. But I would definately not recommend Hollywood to anyone.

Thanks again for all your help %26amp; advice.

Thank you for reporting back. Good info. I%26#39;m surprised that someone from London would think that Hollywood was so scary, but it%26#39;s good to know that.

I feel like we need to do a FAQ: ';It doesn%26#39;t really look like that.';

It%26#39;s like, what you see on TV and you think is Hollywood, is really Beverly Hills. Or careful editing.

Thanks for your report. I hope you do come back and explore Santa Monica and other areas.

I did add to the FAQs a little while back that Hollywood is not what you expect from seeing things on TV, because those are usually all filmed in Beverly Hills, West Hollywood, and Santa Monica. Hope it will help others.
