HI,
My husband and I are travelling through the region on a trip to California. We are planning on spending 2 nights (Dec 30/31) in Paso Robles with a days wine tasting in the middle.
We are looking at staying in the Pasa Roble Inn as it looks fairly central for going out in the evening. So I have 3 main questions
Will there be resteraunts and bars open on New Years Eve?
What wineries are reccomended to visit in one day? and
Is the Paso Robles inn a good buy for $125 per night., or would you reccomemd an alternative.
Many Thanks
Sarah Spink
New Year TripThe Paso Robles Inn is a dump unless you go for the more expensive rooms. You are better off going with a standard chain hotel, such as the La Quinta Suites or the new Courtyard Marriott for the same price. At least the room will be clean and roomy, instead of drafty and moldy.
New Year TripHi Sarah-
I have stayed at the Paso Robles Inn - in an upstairs room with a hot tub on the balcony- and it was very clean and comfortable. I wouldn’t call it luxurious, but it was very nice. It faced an inner courtyard type area and was quite private. The balcony had its own curtain, which was nice. I cannot speak for the less expensive rooms, but this room was great and I would stay there again. It is an older hotel, and possibly in need of updating in some areas. It is close to a small park, shops, and restaurants. There are many wineries nearby as well. If you are in doubt, you might think about staying in Cambria, which is a beautiful drive west -about 24 miles- near the ocean, but you may pay more than $125 per night. Cambria has many more lodging options. Both areas will allow you access to wine tasting and restaurants. The price you are quoting seems very reasonable, especially for NYE. I would think a lot of restaurants and wineries will be open, but to be sure, you could check a few web sites:

Hope you have a great time. I think the Paso Robles wine area is one of most beautiful places in CA.
Hi, sarah,
I have stayed at the Paso Robles Inn also, %26amp; agree the rooms in the ballroom building are better (but you will pay more). I never had a dirty room, but some of the walls in the garden rooms are pretty thin. I%26#39;m pretty sure there is a big NYE party/dinner/dance in the ballroom you can purchase tickets for. Have a great trip. I think $125/night is a super-bargain.
Well our plan is to :
Fly to Vegas on Christmas Eve and have 4 nights at the MandalayBay. (we got married in Vegas and love returning there)
Early flight on Dec 28th to SF
Drive from the airport via Santa Cruz then spend
2 nights in Monterey (Best Western de Anza)
The drive to PR via Big Sur and Hurst Castle
2 nights in Paso Robles (31st is Wine tasting Day)
Then drive down to San Diego on New Years day (as I assume very little will be open that day), with a lunch stop in Santa Barbara
1 night in San Diego
then 3 nights in LA (probably staying in the inn at Venice Beach)
We then intend to shoot back up the freeway to SF staying in a model in the marina on our final night before flying back to the UK late on the 6th Jan.
We have been to SF for a week before and visited Napa/Sonoma so hopefully this will give us a good overview of some more of the state.
Any comments or reccomendations are welcome -
