My friends and I are planning a ski trip to Tahoe during Christmas. We love to take up the a ski package that provide ski lessons for at least 3 days. Please provide some recommendations and suggestion. thanks
Ski lessons %26amp; Ski area- please suggest
All of the ski areas offer ski/snowboard packages which include lessons, lift passes and equipment rental for multiple days. It depends on where you want to stay in Lake Tahoe(North or South). When you decide that then pick one of the ski areas;check out their website for prices;then show up early in the morning or the day before to sign up and get your equipment.
The large area in the South is Heavenly which has a very good ski school. The large ones in the North would be Squaw or Northstar. I would pick Northstar for beginners, because it%26#39;s a little slower and more family friendly.
If you are flying to Lake Tahoe(REno) then the airlines are offering hotel and ski packages.

Hi, what the difference between NOrth and South Tahoe? If I were to visit during the Chistmas season, would there be fresh snow or man-made snow in the North or South Tahoe? If I were to chose the Northstar SKi School, which accomodation would you recommend?
Hi from North Lake Tahoe-
Snow at Christmas. Yesterday we went hikiing in 70 degree weather, so snow at Christmas could very well be man made with a little bit of natural snow thrown in. High resorts like Squaw will have more snow than lower resorts like Diamond Peak.
Describe what you want in a resort and I will help. We stayed at Sqaw season before last. It has the village, families, kind of posher than other resorts and accomodation is right next to the lifts. Northstar is similar, more beginner friendly, more skiiers driving in from outside (for weekends), NOT ON THE LAKE.
Diamond Peak and Homewood are smaller, very beginner friendly, great views, but you will have to stay in nearby accomodation or have a car. (Diamond Peak has a shuttle for all of Incline and the Tahoe Hyatt %26amp; Spa (small casino) has spectacular views and is right on the lake - their website has ski packages and they also have a shuttle to Northstar.) Homewood has doubled its size and has great lake views, but not the restaurants etc. of the more expensive resorts. Lots of packages at both of these for beginners.
If you want lots of development (drive through restaurants, casinos, shops etc. ) South shore has the marriot and casinos and lots of packages for Heavenly. Heavenly has great lake views as well, but can sometimes seem really crowded. High speed gondola out of Marriot complex. Tons of people, lots of the smoking/drinking casino crowd.
Tahoe City is a quieter, downtown on the west shore with a nice feel, restaurants, bars, shops etc and not far from Alpine Meadows, Homewood, Squaw etc.
You have to decide what you want, then check the websites. Lift ticket prices vary a lot , but since you are looking at lesson packages, that will not coincide with lift tix. Prices are all on line. Good Luck. We all are hoping for snow by Christmas.
One more thing -
Near the lake
Homewood, Diamond Peak, Heavenly
Over the hill,
Northstar, Mt. Rose, Squaw and Alpine Meadows
We love Homewood and Diamond Peak, but we aren%26#39;t looking for the glitzy experience with lots of people who drove up for the weekend.
Best hotel for any of these - hands down the Hyatt Lake Tahoe
Hi, I have kind of decided to select the Northstar as my ski resort. My plan is to travel there between Dec 22 to Dec 27th. My issue now is to search for accomodation and also transportation. For accomodation, we would either get a small cabin or hotel room ( for 3 adult person). The cost of accomodation should be moderate. I am travelling from San Jose to Tahoe. Which is the best mode of transportation? Bus or Car. If we were to take the bus transportation. Would it be inconvenient to move aound the Northstar ski resort while we are there since we do not have a car.
Also, are there any good spa recommendations around tahoe?
That%26#39;s a great choice to stay at Northstar at TAhoe. Have a look at the website www.northstarattahoe.com. This will give you an idea of the type of accomodations available and the prices. NOrthstar has their own transportation system so if you decide to take the bus then you don%26#39;t have to worry about getting around the resort. Also, if you drive with the car and the roads are bad then you can stil use their shuttle system and leave the car parked.
You can find other private listings at www.VRBO.com.
Enjoy!!!
We go to Northstar every weekend during ski season. The staff is super friendly. They have lots of great services for those who will need to rent or store their gear. They have new dining options all the time. I love the outdoor seating around the gas fire pits and the live music.
Our family likes Northstar the best, but they also like to try one or two other areas, for a change of pace, when we stay for a week at Incline. Last year they also went to Diamond Peak as it was very close to the Hyatt, and another day they drove over to Homewood. The views of the lake were breathtaking from there.
Homewood does have good views but there really needs to be some serious snow before that resort is decent don%26#39;t you think? Sometimes by Christmas the snow isn%26#39;t at it%26#39;s best. You%26#39;ll have to guage that as it gets closer.
You are right Susie, it would have been better with lots more snow last January when we tried Homewood.
I was just commenting that a couple places we went too, had views of the lake, since nothing was stellar the week we picked to vacation.
Lucky you to be able to go each week to Northstar.
