We are staying in San Fran for 2 nights and then driving on to Vegas via Yosemite and death Valley, staying 3 nights on route. Can anyone reccommend a car hire company that we can drop off the car in vegas. Also what car would you recommend for the journey? We are traveling 24th - 27th June

Have a look at either www.orbitz.com and www.expedia.com or any other travel search company;then click on cars. Both of these will list out all available car rental agencies in San Francisco. You can pick your car up in the city or at the airport. The cars will be listed by size and by pricing. They will, also tell you if there will be a dropoff charge for leaving the car in Las Vegas.
This s a better way to check for the car then checking each website of car rental agencies.
The size of the car will depend on how many people will be traveling and the luggage situtation. Gas is realtively expensive(cheaper than Europe). A good comfortable car would be a midsize and still have good gas mileage.
The agency will require a current diver%26#39;s license and a major credit card for rental. There are restricions on persons less than 25 yrs of age.

Thanks for the reply. iIt%26#39;s just the 2 of us with one case each. I%26#39;ll try those websites. My husband to be is mad to drive a mustang convertible, not sure myself for that long journey!
Yeah, your husband is right on with the mustang convertible. Go for it!!!
My parents visit often and always rent the smallest car. They never get it though, the agencies never seem to have them on the lot when they get there, so they get a free upgrade.
....That said, splurge on the convertible!
Have a great trip.
Realize that you will pay more for the one-way rental; check the rates at the different agencies to see which ones will give you the best one way rate.
I can%26#39;t believe the price for the one way drop off. Got quoted araoun $1000 dollars for the rental of the mustang convertible and a further $700 for the drop off. I don%26#39;t think so! We can rent a mustang in vegas and drive to the grand canyon as we%26#39;re staying overnight there. Now I have the break the news to himself!
The one-way car rental question comes up quite often on this forum, as many visitors fly into one city and out of another. Do a search for one way rental (or something similar). I know that one poster fairly recently found a very good price with no drop-off charge. Although I doubt it was a Mustang convertible, though!
