Going to visit my prior stepdaughter who is now a freshman at USC in southern LA. Not a great area. I%26#39;d love to take her out 2x. Once more casual, the other, maybe yummy, trendy spot. Price sin%26#39;t that much of a concern. Anythign very close to her at USC? See her this Friday ofr the first time in years. Thanks so much!
Where to eat near USA?
How close to USC does it have to be?? Will you have a car?? If she%26#39;s attending USC, she probably knows the area. Just ask her where to go.

WHERE TO EAT NEAR USC? Thanks for response. Darn---typo...I asked where to eat near USA before!...Yes, I have a car. Stepdaugher just started school there recently and has no idea where to go. Would love on very casual yummy spot and one trendy, also good place. $ not an issue (w/in reason...Dan Tanna%26#39;s too pricey and ';mature'; for her). Thank you!
As an alumnus of %26#39;SC I have to tell you the area is not bad. It is a great mix of old homes, businesses, restaurants, frat %26amp; sorority houses, and the university itself.
I always enjoyed the 29th Street cafe. Pretty much all students, good atmosphere, average food.
The Pantry, LA%26#39;s ultimate greasy spoon. Owned by former Mayor Riordan who bought me breakfast there once.
El Cholo on Western Ave. Great Mexican food. Also La Barca for great atmosphere, Mexican food, and the best margaritas.
Korean food? Awesome Korean BBQ places on Western Ave. also.
Dr. Z
fight on !
Thanks!!...checking Zagat now...what neighborhood(s) would you call USC and environs? I really appreciate your help.
USC is bordered by Figueroa St., Exposition Blvd., Vermont Ave., and Jefferson Blvd. Driving a few minutes in any direction will lead you to a unique neighborhood with it%26#39;s own distinct atmosphere.
Exposition Park, which has some nice gardens and museums, along with the LA Memorial Coliseum, is adjacent on the Exposition Blvd. side. Figueroa will lead you towards the Convention Center area, Staples Center and the Pantry. Vermont, going north, will lead you towards Koreatown.
In my opinion, I would avoid going south from USC.
Thank you for you great suggestions! Off to the airport now. Happy travels.
I agree with Jcena. Since you%26#39;ll have a car, does it have to be close to USC?? There are countless places not too far away in places like Hollywood, West Hollywood, Beverly Hills, etc. You%26#39;re real close to Downtown and there are some great places there. As mentioned, the Pantry is not the nicest place but it%26#39;s a legendary place!
