Rent in San Fran drop off at Sacramento Airport?

Has anyone picked up a rental car in the city of S.F. we are staying in the Embarcadero Area at the Hyatt Regency and dropped it at the airport the day they left. We are probably flying out of Sacramento.

We have done this many times when trying to get to another city or airport. Use expedia or Orbitz to get some good rates. In most cases since it%26#39;s within California then there will be no drop off fees for the car. However, just check on the websites to validate.

check the Hertz website for a rate quote. If you are an AAA member, use discount code 5 for a better rate.

We%26#39;re renting from Dollar next week and I found a much better rate than any other company, at least from my online research. We%26#39;re picking up from downtown SF and returning to Oakland Airport - only an extra $10 for the drop charge, well worth it. I don%26#39;t think they%26#39;d charge you much more to drop in Sacramento.

Thanks--Are there a variety of pick up areas in the city for Dollar and Hertz. We are staying at the Hyatt. Thought they would have a car rental themselves, but don%26#39;t believe they do!

bump

We just got back from SF. I%26#39;m looking at a Hertz map right now. We rented a car from their location at 500 Beach St in Fishermans Wharf. That was a couple of blocks from the Tuscan Inn. Very convenient for us! We returned it to their Burlingame location, which is close to the airport. There was no extra fee.

There is a drop-off chrge between SFO and SMF, and it can be hefty. They are not a ';co-location';, such as between downtown SF and SFO and/or OAK (or LAX/ONT/SNA/BUR). They were once co-locations, but I got caught out over the Christmas-New Year%26#39;s holiday when the transition was made. Between SFO and SMF. Ouch.

However, National usually has one-way rates that are a little higher than if you return it in the Bay Area, but there isn%26#39;t the $100/$200 drop-off fee that others typically charge. I%26#39;ve actually picked up at LAX and dropped off at SMF for about $45/da. with National. With the others, sometimes the surcharge is stated. Sometimes it gets you when you return (see ';$200';, above). Sometimes the surcharge is buried until you reach the bottom line, so be sure to drill that far when shopping on-line.

Dollar had the best deal for our trip which started in LA and finished in San Fran. $240 for the week in a Chrysler Pacifica. Dollar has a location on O%26#39;Farrell St in SF.

Thanks for all of your help. I%26#39;m not great at maps so not sure what location(s) are the easiest for us. I will start at Hertz since my husband has a Gold Card and then try Dollar and National. I appreciate the Help!

I%26#39;m renting downtown and then dropping at SMF three days later, so doesn%26#39;t sound like there will be a drop off charge like that! Or, if there is, it won%26#39;t be extraordinary. That is what I was most concerned about!
