bears and convertible cars in Yosemite

My husband and I are staying for two nights in Yosemite during September. As we%26#39;re part way through a road trip we are going to be in a hire car. We wanted to hire a convertible but now I%26#39;ve read the stories about bears in parking lots, I%26#39;m not so sure. Are we crazy to take a soft top car to the Park?

A bear can make any car a convertible if he wants to! Just follow the advice posted here and by the NPS and you will be fine. Don%26#39;t leave anything that looks like food, smells like food or trash from food in the car.

This includes toothpaste.......it%26#39;s hard to believe, but bears seem to think toothpaste is food and will break a car window just to get it. I find it amazing that they have such a good sense of smell. So heed the previous posters advice....leave absolutely nothing in your car that has a scent that even faintly resembles food. If you follow this advice, your convertible should be fine.

Thanks for the advice! I%26#39;ll make sure we take everything out of the car before we leave it.
