Is Sausalito worth a visit ?
Ive been recommended a restuarant there - is there anything else of interest to see and do ?
How would we get to Sausalito - I assume its by ferry - where do we catch it from and how long would it take ?
Sausalito ?
Sausalito has lots of shops. It%26#39;s quaint with a bit of a Mediterranean feel. Best way is by ferry. 2 options.
1 from the Ferry Building via Golden Gate Ferry

2. from Pier 41 via Blue %26amp; Gold

or, you could rent a bike, spend time in Sausalito, and ferry back.
or you can get there via Golden Gate Transit bus

Ferry is 30 minutes each way.
Sausalito ?
Do yourself a favor and take the Ferry from Ferry Building over to Sausilito and then head to the Alta Mira Hotel. They have a great outdoor patio with great views of San Francisco. I haven%26#39;t been there for a few years so I can%26#39;t vouch for the food, but they used to have great Eggs Benedicts and Ramos Fizzes for brunch. You might want to call the hotel and see what the current restaurant menu is.
Bob--unfortunately, the Alta Mira no longer has a restaurant or bar open to the public. They use the area with the gorgeous views for special events instead. What a loss to the rest of us! Staying at the hotel tho%26#39; is still a very special and wonderful experience. I would be ready to go back right now!
Have a look at Horizons at Sausalito.
Great place to sit on the deck with terrific views across bay.

Hi,
We visited San Francisco in July, and made a trip to Sausalito.
A great place to spend some time.
We walked the GG bridge, and caught the ferry back, though as people have suggested - you could get the bus or ferry either way.
Some photos I took whilst there are in my online gallery at www.shanefergusonphotography.co.uk
There are photos of San Francisco/Alcatraz/Sausalito etc - taken on the trip on July.
Hope this helps,
Shane :-)
Having lived in Sausalito I my be biased, however, in my humble opinion, when visiting San Francisco and it%26#39;s foggy, cross the Golden Gate bridge and more likely than not it will be sunny and gorgeous in Sausalito. There are a number of great bunch spots, however, Fred%26#39;s is a great hole in the wall unfrequented by the droves of tourists. Take a hike in the Marin Headlands, go cycling toward Mt. Tam, or simply stroll along the shops in the heart of the quaint city.
I highly recommend to bike there and then return by ferry. A wonder trip by itself.
