I am anxiously awaiting our September week in your fair city, but before we go I must do my usual due dilligance. So here we go...
1) We will be spending a day in Old Town and it seems like Mexican food is the main dining option there. Where is the best and most authentic food in Old Town?
2) What is generally regarded as the best steakhouse in SD? I am hoping for a local SD place, not something like Mortons or Ruths Chris, been there done that.
Oh yeah, I posted a ? about local spas a week or so ago. I have found a spa that looks nice, GAIA Day spa in La Jolla. Any one know anything about it?
Thanks in advance for the help.
Need the local 411 on Mexican Food and Steakhouses.
As far as San Diego Steakhouses go I%26#39;d suggest either Donovan%26#39;s in the UTC area off of La JOlla VIllage Drive or Rainwaters which is more downtown off of Kettner. Both are very good with impecable service, top notch steaks, and good wine selection.
Others will have to chime in on the spa. El Agave has a wide selection of very good tequilas and is a fun place to go. They are sometimes hit and miss on the food apparently and a bit high end. Everything else in Old Town is fairly tourist oriented, but if I had to pick one I%26#39;d go with La Pinata. It%26#39;s on Juan Street.
Have fun!
Need the local 411 on Mexican Food and Steakhouses.
I agree about the steakhouses but I like ElAgave for interesting Mexican food.It is a high end restaurant with choices from all over Mexico and TONS of tequila choices. It is NOT your typical burrito/taco combo plate restuarant. I have not heard of the other suggested Mex restaurant. Lately ,people have been saying good things about CasaGuadalajarahttp://bazaardelmundo.com/guad2006.shtml
Phew Riffsmom I didn%26#39;t think you were going to mention CASA.
Casa Guadalajara is probably my favorite sit-down mexican restaurant in San Diego.
Chucky:
Donovan%26#39;s in La Jolla is not bad, but it is no Metropolitan Grill (Seattle). Restaurants here in San Diego seem to do a better job with flatiron cuts than they do with NY Strip, porterhouse, or ribeye. If you do not go to Donovan%26#39;s, then my suggestion would be to eat at JRDN restaurant inside the Tower 23 Hotel in Pacific Beach and order the flatiron. Very good, very nice ambience in front of the ocean, extensive wine selection, and reasonably priced. If possible, try and avoid Friday or Saturday nights.
I guess when I said ';lately people have said good things about Casa Guadalajara%26#39;';I must have meant you!
Thanks everyone for your informative replys.
