My husband and I decided to have a short getaway in August, since we live in the Bay Area, Monterey seemed like a great place to go for a weekend. The only problem is that I cannot find any place to stay. The only places that I found were motels for over $300 a night.
We would like to go the weekend of August 17th. Does anyone have any suggestions on where to stay?
Thank you.
Hotel in August
Hi. You%26#39;ve chosen a bad weekend for Monterey as it%26#39;s the weekend of the Concours d%26#39;Elegance, the major auto show and auction. I tried a few of the hotels I usually recommend just to see if there were any rooms, but there was nothing. Even the so-so places are asking a lot for their rooms. I hate to say it, but you might want to consider another location for your getaway. There are so many nice places down the coast--e.g., Cambria. Good luck.

Thank you for your reply. My husband and I are looking for a weekend get away without the kids. So we just need a decent hotel (not too expensive but not a dump either), a bike trail for a leisurely bike ride, a nice place to walk around and a good restaurant for dinner.
Can you recommend a place around the Bay Area. I picked Monterey because we have been there many times and I just do not know of any other weekend destinations.
Thank you for your advice.
Hi Anna. I don%26#39;t know if this would appeal to you, but one place I like to go is Los Gatos. There is a bike trail: los-gatos.ca.us/los_gatos/…creek.html
Also, the downtown is filled with cute shops and restaurants and a lovely park where you can sit and talk or read and relax.
Half Moon Bay is also very nice. http://www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=531
I stayed at the Beach House Inn there and enjoyed it a lot.
If you%26#39;re willing to drive more, then, as I mentioned, Cambria is really a nice place to visit, but you really don%26#39;t have to go too far from home to find a good place.
We booked a room at the Ramada in Marina for a night in August for under $100. It%26#39;a about 10 miles from Monterey and had outstanding ratings.
