Places to stay between SF and Portland?

Hi again...

First, thank you all for being so kind and helping with the vacation we are planning.

After we leave SF on our road trip, the next stop is Portland. We are trying to limit our driving to about 500-600 miles a day, if not less, so that we are both full on energy when we arrive and can do some sightseeing, since most places we will only be there for 1 day.

When going from SF to Portland...is there any suggestions about a city or a place to go that is sorta 1/2 way in between the 2 cities? I was thinking of Medford, OR, based on a map, but wasn%26#39;t sure if this was a good place or if there was maybe a different place we should check out?

Places to stay between SF and Portland?

I think Medford would be a good choice. It is large enough to have a selection of places to stay.

If you feel like staying in smaller places where you can relax and walk to dinner, I might suggest the small town of Yreka just south of the border between California and Oregon. We like the Best Western Miner%26#39;s Inn. Nearby is a restaurant called the Purple Plum, casual, where you can get anything from hamburgers to steak (It is painted purple). This is a cute town.

Then there is Ashland, just south of Medford, in Oregon, which is also a pretty little town, and where there is a Shakespeare Festival in the summer, which keeps it lively (and maybe hard to get reservations unless you do it ahead of time.)
