Hi Folks. We now realise we will not see everything on our 2 wk trip to CA otherwise will be be spending our holiday in a car. We have 3 nights in Southern CA. We like a lot of different things - good hotels, good food, shopping, music, photography, cycling. Don%26#39;t mind City or outdoor/open areas but don%26#39;t like tacky areas. We will be driving down from SF. Thanks.
Hollywood, Santa Barbara or Palm Springs - 3 nights only!
If you don%26#39;t like tacky areas skip Hollywood. Both Santa Barbara and Palm Springs are nice but better at different times of year. In the summer go to Santa Barbara. In the winter go to Palm Springs. Note that both SB and PS are small cities so they are not exciting, particularly for nightlife.

I suggest Santa Monica - it has it all - great hotels, great food, great shopping, great music, and you can rent bikes and bike along the beach to Manhattan Beach, another great town.
