Best place to stay near restaurants

any advice please - one night stop at SLO next summer - are there any nice places to stay within walking distance to restaurants. the new Courtyard by Marriott sounds OK but I think it%26#39;s too far from the nightlife!

Best place to stay near restaurants

The Embassy Suites is located very near to several restaurants including Tahoe Joe%26#39;s, Applebee%26#39;s, %26amp; Madonna Inn%26#39;s Gold Rush Steak House.

Monterey Street has several excellent hotels within walking distance to downtown which has many many excellent restaurants, as well. Think Novo, Calago, Mission Grill, Mare Bleu.

You%26#39;re right about the new Marriott. The only restaurant nearby is Margie%26#39;s Diner, which isn%26#39;t exactly a happening place. OK food, though.

Could you possibly name some of the hotels on Monterey Street so I can look them up.

Many thanks

Here%26#39;s what I found in the local directory:

1) Best Western Somerset Inn

2) Comfort Inn and Suites

3) Holiday Inn Express

4) Quality Suites

5) Sands Suites %26amp; Motel

6) Peach Tree Inn

7) Petit Soleil B%26amp;B

8) The Apple Farm Inn %26amp; Trellis Court

9) The Garden Street Inn ( A B%26amp;B located in the downtown area)

The San Luis Creek Lodge looks inviting, as well. You can read reviews for some of these places by clicking on San Luis Obispo Hotels in the gray box to the left of this forum. Have fun planning your trip.

Thanks very much - you%26#39;ve been most helpful.

If you still need info, Garden Street Inn is the best place to stay if you want to take in the SLO downtown life. Try to stay there on a thursday, because the downtown has a farmers market every thursday night starting at 6:00. There are tons of bar b que eateries on the street, in addition to the plethora of downtown restaurants. Marriot is really far from the main area of town. Apple Farm isn%26#39;t bad either...you can get cheap rooms, and its easy to take a trolley to the downtown.

I have stayed at the Apple Farm and it is really nice. BUT...make sure they dont put you in the Trellis Court....stay in the main hotel part only. again....Do not get the Trellis Court rooms as they are separate from the hotel, very small and not as nice. This is a boutique bed and breakfast style inn. They lobby serves coffee, apples, cookies all day. They also have a really good restaurant on premises and a cute gift shop. They do have a great breakfast and bakery. Next door is a closed down hotel which is actually the first motel in America. Wish they would have told us while there as we might have appreciated the view of it a bit more. It is in the hub of all the cute shopping ';villiage'; although you might want to drive a few streets inwards. There is also an old fashion theater in the middle of the place. We ate dinner at a sports restaurant but cant remember the name...service was slow but the food was good.
