Rv in Big Sur

We are planning a three trip in Big Sur and would like any feedback on RV places to stay in or close by Big Sur. Thanks

These three campgrounds accommodate RVs. I can%26#39;t comment on the quality, but suggest that you start by reading the trip advisor reviews.

Rv in Big Sur

Hi, I have not stayed in the Big Sur area, but we travel all around with our RV, so here is more info that may help you.

Of the three sites listed by the previous poster, *only* the Big Sur Campground and Cabins has a dump station. This may be an issue with a longer stay.

TA does not have a lot of reviews for RV parks (I think because they don%26#39;t have a separate category for them), but here is a website that is strictly for RV parks and campground reviews, similar to TA. I have listed the Big Sur location, but you can check others as well. Good luck!

(Note the reviews for Big Sur Campground state it is not for big rigs!)

It is your lucky day as I have camped in Big Sur on three different occasions. On all three, I have stayed at the Big Sur Campground. This is a smaller private campground. The spaces are close which is negative, the grounds friendly and family oriented. Spaces 92,93 and 94 are for large RV%26#39;s. They are cemented foundations and it is not as ';rustic'; as the other spaces..how can you camp with no trees and no dirt in you space? lol.

I have stayed in spaces 100 and 2. I liked the 100 better as it faces a greenery of grassy area and is more secluded. There is no rvf cv campers to the right and both times the cabins were vacant. #2 was cramped but it was nice being closer to the water than 100 is. As this place is very tight like the others, I would recommend staying along the water as that open space of water gives you a sense of openness. #100 is across from the basketball court and if a bouncing ball drives you nuts then take #2. But then you have a lot of traffic from people coming and going. They rent rafts to float down the river...which the kids love. and the small store sells ice cream...Yes, this place attracts a lot of kids.

We drove to nearby PFEIFFER-BIG SUR STATE PARK and ANDREW MOLERA STATE PARK .They are nice too but the state parks have a different feel and privately owned campgrounds.

Here is a better website to compare them.

I

forgot to add

Tom Stienstra sells an RV camping book (and other camping books) which is the best camping book ever! It rates all the campgrounds and he is always right.. His rating go from 1-10 and I only choose places that are 8 and up and have never been disappointed. It is worth every penny..you should buy one before you book..plus..he gives you all the numbers to call for reservations.

ihave2dogs - Since the op hasn%26#39;t been back to thank you - I would like to thank you for the info! : ) I am saving your posts.

Someday we hope to have a small RV and ';camp'; along the coast.

Babalax,

When you get that RV...go ahead and pick my brain!

Make sure you go to Point Lobos while in the area. It is a ';do not miss'; area.

Also, on Sycamore Canyon Road (to Pfeiffer Beach) heed the warning...not recommended for RV%26#39;s. It is a to-die-for beach down a drop dead gorgeous windy one lane road. When we were there, there was no RV warning sign. Once part way down the road we realized ';uh-oh'; but the one lane road had no areas for an RV to turn around. We ended up breaking the ladder off the RV from one of the trees that overhang the road to make it look like a tunnel.

Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park has a great souvenir shop on the premise. My kids found some great trinkets there. I also has an RV dump station which is in a large area and easy to get to.

We have done the coastal drive. It isnt THAT bad and you will have to turn out so the cars behind you can get by. But the view should not be missed. At a certain point, we took the 405 for a while. The only time my husband freaked in an RV was on the way up to the Lodgepol in the Sequoias/Kings Canyone. He swears he would never do that again to this day!

Ever driven the road down to Shelter Cove south of Eureka in a MH? Now, there%26#39;s an *exhilarating* road indeed :-)

Thank you!

We did the drive 2 weeks ago from LA to San Francisco by car. Saw a few RVs (class C size) along the way. Have to say, I was a little nervous for them. We are hoping to get a class B - Roadtrek or Pleasure Way. We%26#39;ll definitely get that RV camping book you suggested.

We hiked Point Lobos while in Carmel - WOW! I live in the Rockies and hike in some spectacular scenery but that hike along the ocean was phenomenal.

I tent camped in Pfeiffer Big Sur about 20 years ago. Have always wanted to do it again but not in a tent! ; )

Thanks again...
