North America Xmas/New Year Holiday

Can someone please tell me when the holidays for the Xmas/New Year generally end? Here in New Zealand, this is the main holiday season, so a lot of Companies close down %26amp; open up again around the 14th January, I know some this year are staying closed until 21st January, %26amp; Schools go back the last few days of January.

The reason for asking is we are having our first trip to LA/LV %26amp; surrounds arriving Jan 3rd for 12 nights, and I am trying to work out an itinery for theme parks/attractions etc, hope to avoid extra large crowds.

Any advise on planning to go to U/Studios %26amp; Disney parks would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Folks start going back to work and school after NY%26#39;s Day. Some may even resume work after the 1st weekend of the year. We are in the northern hemisphere and it is winter while you in NZ have Xmas and summer together. For Calif. its winter is mild. Universal Studios and Disneyland should be lighter in crowd size. January is a rainy month if the current drought does not persist.

The only days off work most people get are Dec 24-25 and Dec 31- Jan 1. The two days after Jan 1 will probably be busier than normal, and maybe even the following weekend. However, the week following January 6 should be fine, especially since many schools start up again that Monday, January 7. I would plan your theme park trips for that week, Mon-Thurs.
