Hi, I am travelling to LA from the UK on the 8th Feb 2008 for 5 nights. Flights are booked, but the rest is what we need help with.
I am trvelling with my Brother who is 21 (Im 28)We are looking to do the usual sight seeing stuff, walk of fame, hollywood sign, universal studios, chinese theatre, watch a sitcom/talkshow being fimed, catch a nba/nfl/nhl/nsa game, not fussed on which. So any info on the abobe would be great.
We also want to sample the night life, Visit the viper room? Or a better place you may suggest?
Im led to believe the Grammys are on the week we are there, will this cause any problems with accomodation, or is there a better place to stay that we might see more celebs?
Where would you suggest we stay? Want to stay somwhere fairly decent, possibly the Roosevelt?
We are not looking to hire a car
Sorry about asking so many questions!!
Thanks in Advance
Dan
Need some LA advice from start to finish!!! PleaseIf you%26#39;re here when the Grammy%26#39;s are in town, then the Roosevelt is a great place to stay. You%26#39;ll see celebs in the hotel%26#39;s bar and nearby restaurants. Depends on your budget per night. You%26#39;ll be close to all night clubs there, too, and won%26#39;t need a car.
Please see our FAQs at the to pof the LA Forums, which answers many of your questions.
Regarding seeing a show taping, it all depends on whether or not the strike is still on, which it mostly likely will be. This means no show tapings.
Need some LA advice from start to finish!!! PleaseYou may want to do a bit more research on things to do in LA. What you mention is just one very small part of LA, Hollywood, which will take you a couple hours to see, plus a day at Universal Studios. There are other areas like West Hollywood (where Viper Room is btw), Beverly Hills, Brentwood, Santa Monica, and Venice which most tourists see to get a full grasp of LA. NBA teams play at the Staples Center in Downtown. You can take the metro there from Hollywood. You can buy tickets at www.ticketmaster.com. Clippers tickets will be a lot easier to get than Lakers tickets. You can also take the metro to Universal. You can use buses to see West Hollywood and Beverly Hills. However, getting to the beach neighborhoods of Santa Monica, Venice and the famous Getty Center will take at least an hour from Hollywood. You should consider renting a car if you can, at least for part of your stay if you want to see other neighborhoods which is highly recommended to get a sense of what LA has to offer. This is a car city and most locals drive as the city is very spread out.
Staying at the Roosevelt is a good deal during the Grammy%26#39;s as yogachick pointed out. I would book it asap. There is a bar and a club inside, and it%26#39;s close to a bunch of other Hollywood bars and clubs. There are also other areas that you should check out to get a sample of various types of nightlife in LA, besides Hollywood. Sunset Strip bars are one option, there are bars around Melrose Ave and Santa Monica Blbd in West Hollywood as well. There is also nightlife in Santa Monica and Venice, but its not close to Hollywood.
You really picked a poor time period to see some sporting events in LA. Here%26#39;s why......
NFL: The NFL season actually ends on February 3 with the Super Bowl being held in Arizona. By the way, Los Angeles does not have a football team, but that%26#39;s a whole different story.
NHL: The local team, the Los Angeles Kings, are out of town that time period. The other team, the Anaheim Ducks, plays in Orange County, about an hour or so from LA. The Ducks are also playing out of town during that time period.
NBA: The local teams, the Los Angeles Lakers and the Los Angeles Clippers both play in the same arena, the Staples Center. Your only choice here is to see the Clippers play the Washington Wizards on Feb. 13, your last night in LA.
Tickets can be purchased at www.ticketmaster.com/event/09003F38F7EDF28D…
College Basketball: The 2 major colleges in town USC %26amp; UCLA will both be playing out of town during your stay. There are other colleges in the area that have teams but, in my opinion, are not as big a draw as UCLA %26amp; USC.
I%26#39;m not sure what the NSA is that you mentioned.
