Kids at the Ventana Inn and The Post Ranch Inn

I really want to stay at either the Ventana or the Post Ranch Inn when we drive from LA to San Fran next March but we will have our children aged 12 %26amp; 15. We always book two interconnecting rooms has anyone else done this and are families welcome at these hotels? (Any other luxury hotel suggestions in this area would be appreciated, i cant do basic!!!)

Many thanks!

Kids at the Ventana Inn and The Post Ranch Inn

Those are the nicest places in Big Sur, if you go to the Carmel HIghland%26#39;s area, the Highland%26#39;s Inn is very nice. I know families are welcome there, the rooms are very spacious, more like apartments really. There is a fully stocked kitchen, living area with sofas and fireplace and some rooms have stunning views of the coastline. Also Valet parking, two great restaurants here and complimentary bikes.

Have fun with your research and welcome to the travel forums! :)

Kids at the Ventana Inn and The Post Ranch Inn

I have always heard that the Ventana Inn and Post Ranch Inn discouraged people from bringing children, so I checked their websites.

This is directly from the Ventana website:

Ventana is designed and operated for adults seeking a romantic getaway. To support and promote the desire of our guests for this type of atmosphere, we encourage parents to not bring their children.

The Post Ranch Inn website states:

Post Ranch Inn was created for adults to relax, rejuvenate and nurture relationships. Therefore, our minimum age for guests is 18 years and older.

Thanks for your comments, i checked out the Park Hyatt in carmel and the town houses on the website looked fab but the reviews on tripadvisor are very poor. I phoned the Ventana and they confirmed that no one under 18 is welcome but they recommended the Monterey Plaza (again fairly mixed reviews on TA) I would really appreciate any opinions on these two properties or any other ';Luxury'; hotels that welcome children (mine are 12 %26amp; 15 so they dont require any baby or toddler facilities) I would really like a sea view and nice resaurants.

Something you have to consider when you read the reviews is ';sticker shock.'; When people come here from areas where the cost of living is lower (which includes much of the world), and they are paying $300-plus for a hotel, I think they sometimes expect the Taj Mahal. I think that may have been the case with the most recent negative review of the Monterey Plaza--when someone hates EVERYTHING, that probably says more about the person than about the hotel. That said, regarding Monterey Plaza, it%26#39;s not 5-star, but it%26#39;s very nice and well-situated. Syrahgirl loves it and will probably add her comments.

Did you look at the Tickle Pink Inn? It%26#39;s located near the Highlands Inn. Also, you might look at Spanish Bay Resort in Pebble Beach--it attracts a lot of golfers, but it%26#39;s a nice property for others. I%26#39;m not 100% sure it%26#39;s worth the price, though.
