skiing while visiting SF

Any good advice on how to put a package together visiting San Francisco for 2 weeks in january from the UK with a 3/4 day skiing trip included? Ideally using public transport to get to the snow and back. thanks.

I%26#39;d consider taking Bart to Oakland Airport and flying to Reno on Southwest Airlines. (Note: There is also Amtrak but if you want to maximize skiing time, best to fly.)

There are shuttles that take you (for a fee) to either North Lake Tahoe

or

South Lake Tahoe

both of which have places to stay and ski at.

Return by shuttle/air to San Francisco.

The closest slopes are about 180 miles away on InterState Highway 5. It%26#39;s an easy drive that takes fewer than four hours unless the Highway Patrol stops traffic for snow clearance. When chains are required, the speed limit is 25mph.

Using public transportation is cumbersome but, as Mini suggested, it can be done.

Equipment, including chains, can be rented here.

Um, Swingcha, the closest skiing to San Francisco is 180 miles away on Interstate Highway 80, not InterState Highway 5.

The closest skiing to San Francisco is Dodge Ridge on Highway 108, about three and a half hours.. http://www.dodgeridge.com.

There is also skiing in Yosemite at Badger Pass. http://www.yosemitepark.com/BadgerPass.aspx

Have a great holiday!

Dodge Ridge may be closer to SF in miles, but in practical terms, Boreal is actually about 30 min closer, generally an easier trip over 80.

plenty of places to stay in nearby Truckee. This may be a good choice as there are many other ski resorts within easy driving distance.

Bayatuning chided «Um, Swingcha, the closest skiing to San Francisco is 180 miles away on Interstate Highway 80, not InterState Highway 5.»

Duh-uh! NOW do you see why I eschew the exclusive use of digital designations for highways?

Uh, no. I-5 and I-80 are easily distinguishable.

i just hope we get some damn snow
