Would greatly appreciate suggestions for things to do for a mom and daughters weekend in SF. We are staying at the Westin SF on Market Street on Nov 9 -11. I am hoping to not have to rent a car. Any suggestions for attactions and restaurants that we can walk to, cab to or take a tour to would be greatly appreciated! We want to get in as much sight seeing as we can. Thanks in advance!

You won%26#39;t have to rent a car, that%26#39;s for sure. You%26#39;re coming on the cusp of Oracle World, which is just down the street from our hotel, so the area will probably be pretty lively. Upwards of 40,000 people over the five-day conference, so you%26#39;ll be in competition for lunch spots around your hotel. (Theoretically, you%26#39;ll be sightseeing away from your hotel by lunch, so hopefully, not too much competition).
You can buy up a three-day Muni transit pass at the visitor%26#39;s center below the Powell Street cable car turnaround, just two (long) blocks away, and that should suffice for most of your traveling around the city. There are hop-on hop-off tours if you like to do the organized sort of tours. You can go to the Ferry Building and check out the Farmer%26#39;s Market on Saturday there. Pier 39 will provide plenty of touristy stuff, including checking out the sea lions. You can try to go to Alcatraz. I%26#39;d suggest trying now to book online, since there will likely be some people arriving early to town for the conference:

I%26#39;d go walk up Telegraph Hill to Coit Tower via the staircases and see if you see the famed parrots.

And take the cable cars, of course. Your Muni pass will be quite economical that way, since fares are $5 each way, no transfers.
Naturally, there%26#39;s plenty of shopping near where you%26#39;re staying...
It just depends on what you want to see and do

All good sugesstions but if you decide not to do Alcatraz you can easily just take the ferry from the Ferry building to Sausalito. Great views of the Golden Gate and the city from the Bay. Also, your girls might enjoy shopping and walking around in the Haight/Ashbury district. Lots of funky little shops and plenty of food choices away from the downtown crunch.
one thing about the bus stop across the street from your hotel, the 30 Stockton and 45 Greenwich is a zoo. The locals ride those buses to Chinatown, then it goes near Fish Wharf. Also, when riding transit, keep your valuables tucked on you, just like riding the El. There is on occasion pick pockets that look for prey on those buses. You can tell, they don%26#39;t look like the other riders, just keep the purses snapped and credit cards in the front pockets.
The F Line is less than half a block away too.
I am also bringing my 17 year old daughter nov 9 thru 14. I have to attend the oracal convention and was wondering what to do with her while I am at that.
Depends on her independence and your comfort level. Moscone Center is downtown, so you can work it out that she%26#39;s only blocks away. Shopping and museums (MoMA, Cartoon Art, MoAD, Academy of Sciences) are very close.
She could hop a bus to the Haight, Mission or Marina as well.

There%26#39;s much from which to choose on the ';Don%26#39;t-miss SIGHTS in San Francisco'; page geocities.com/touringsfo/Articles/Sights.html that has enough to keep you busy for nine 12.7-hour days. It includes links to your best sources of advice on WHERE TO EAT and, according to the Department of Health, WHERE TO NOT EAT here, the UseNet Group ba.food, and the quite-good sfSurvey/Tastyr and the comprehensive Yelp. It also has a WEATHER CHART with a link to current conditions.

I HATE corporations that lie. That hotel is on Third Street at Stevenson Street, perhaps two hundred feet from Market Street.

That includes everywhere and everything here. Better, though, is using the San Francisco Municipal Railway to get around.
The FLAG/MAPS page geocities.com/touringsfo/鈥lagMaps.html has links to the best on-line MAP of San Francisco, the outstanding WALKER/BICYCLIST map that shows the steepness of our streets. The new version of the formerly superb map created for the San Francisco Municipal Railway has removed many streets%26#39; names making it less useful. It%26#39;s cluttered with our many electric bus, cable car, street car, and Diesel bus routes. The map will enlarge and be centered on where you click. There%26#39;s also a link that will tell you how to get There from Where. There is also a map of our CABLE CAR ROUTES, our 49-mile SCENIC DRIVE, and a superb map of GOLDEN GATE PARK.
