Hi ,
I have nearly completed the route for my family%26#39;s California road trip but need help on the last leg . We are travelling clockwise from Las Vegas through Sequoia and Yosemite NP to San Francisco , but then have two days to get back to Las Vegas and onward to Arizona/ Utah . Could you give me the route you would take back to LV , preferrably east of the Sierra Nevada mountains and let me know what hotels you would recommend on the way back , Thanks .... Max
Best route San Francisco to Las Vegas
This is a real common trip and the routes are well-established. There are many posts on this. Use both the SF, Death Valley and California fora to search for the route via those keywords. The search field is located in the box just below your original post (under the green bar).
There is a wealth of recommendations for hotels, places to stop, places to eat, etc.
Best route San Francisco to Las VegasSince nature seems to be your thing (visits to Sequoia and Yosemite NPs on your way to SF) then you might want to consider driving East on I-80 out of SF to North Lake Tahoe. Spend the night in N. Lake Tahoe (Truckee would probably be the most affordable.). Start Day 2 by continuing East on I-80 past Reno until you hit the town of Fernley. You should see directions on how to get to I-95 south. Once on 95 south, it%26#39;s about a 7 hour drive to Las Vegas.
An alternative to I-95, would be to drive from N. Lake Tahoe to South Lake Tahoe and connect with Hwy 89 and then Hwy 395. You could then drive Hwy 395 south all the way down until you get to Death Valley NP, then head east through Death Valley and connect with I-95 once you get into Nevada. You would also have several opportunities to cut over to I-95 off of 395 further north of Death Valley, if you didn%26#39;t want to travel through DV. Taking 395, instead of I-95 via Fernley, would take closer to 10 hours.
krslong%26#39;s suggestion to go via ?South Lake Tahoe and connect with Hwy 89 and then Hwy 395 . . .? through Death Valley to %26#39;Vegas and the Boulder Highway to Arizona is a good one only because you will have already visited Yosemite.
I%26#39;ve just returned from a %26#39;round trip to Phoenix via Monterey, Yosemite, Bodie, Death Valley, and Las Vegas but came home via Beatty, Tonopah, and Benton to Yosemite. For details, put ';The Road'; in the Search box above
OR, you can wait a day or few for the announcement of a WEB page recounting the trip with route details and a variety statistics including odometer readings and times.
