lodge tent cabins

We%26#39;re considering booking accommodation at White Wolf or Tolumne Meadows.

On the bear situation I understand that all food will have to be stored in bear boxes. What I%26#39;m confused about is toiletries. Is it just toothpast or would shampoo, handcream, perfume etc have to be packed away? And does that mean that you shouldn%26#39;t wear handcream etc. Probably a dumb question, but I thought I%26#39;d ask.

Also, is there anywhere you could heat up water for that all important cuppa, could you use a small camp stove outside the tent?

Thanks for any input, I am a little nervous about the whole camping thing (although we%26#39;ve camped here in the UK)

Oh, all shampoo, perfume, handcream, breathmints, chewing gum, soap (body soap and dish soap), laundry detergent, whiskey, lipstick, rouge, mascara, hair conditioner, ky jelly, incense, glo-sticks, chili sauce, pepper spray, motor oil, bicycle grease, deodorant, hairspray, suntan lotion, condoms, drugs, paintballs, eyeliner, window-cleaner, etc etc etc should go in the bear box along with the food. Also anything with food residue on it.

You can wear the handcream, the suntan lotion, the lipstick, etc, and you can use a stove or barbecue outside the tent--the bears do not run up and grab things from people standing by, nor are they interested in licking the suntan lotion off your body, but they will run up and grab things if you are away for ';just a minute';. So don%26#39;t wander off for a stroll around the campground while your cuppa steeps, or the like. The bears%26#39; attitude is like, ';ah, he%26#39;s right there, I can%26#39;t get at it'; versus, ';hey, they%26#39;re gone for now, let%26#39;s go for it!';.

Chances are that you won%26#39;t see a bear at all, and if you keep any and every thing that could possibly be considered tasty by a bear in the bear locker, you won%26#39;t see any evidence of them either.

Cool.

Think I get the picture, thanks

Hello Betty---good choice to consider Tuolomne Lodge. I love Yosemite Valley, but in the summer, Tuolumne is where you will find us. The bears are absolutely no problem if you are prepared and follow the rules--don%26#39;t leave anything (food, cosmetices, etc.) in your tent cabin or in your car. Since you know this in advance, you can easliy pack your cosmetics, shampoo, toothpaste, etc. into a cosmetic bag or case that will be easy to store in the lockers that are provided.

It is highly unlikely you will ever see a bear, and you need not worry about wearing scented lotions, or eating a lunch alongside the trail--they will not approach you. As for making your morning ';cuppa';, I believe there are camp tables scattered around the Tuolumne Lodge property where you could do this; I don%26#39;t know about White Wolf. You won%26#39;t be able to carry fuel for your little camp stove on the plane, but fuel cannisters (propane, butane, or isobutane) and other types of fuel are available at the little store there.
