Hotels for under $100-$150?

We will be in the area sometime from May-August, depending when we officially decide to take our road trip vacation. Can anyone recommend any hotels that would be under $100 or $150 a night that are nice hotels in a nice location? We will have a car rental, so if we have to drive to the hotel, that is fine, but we want to be somewhat close to things. We don%26#39;t want to stay 50 miles from the city, but we are willing to not be in the heart of the city if the hotel is nice. We are just trying to get an idea of a budget for the trip.

It is just going to be a 34 female (me) and 31 male, no kids or pets, just us.

Thanks so much!

Take a look at our FAQs section at the top of the TOPIC LIST and look at the following categories:

ITINERARY IDEAS

The L.A. metro area is extremely spread out so it won%26#39;t be possible to be close to everything but since you%26#39;ll have a car, if you stay in a central location you shouldn%26#39;t have too much trouble.

In general, the farther west you go (closer to the ocean), the more expensive the hotels. So, for example, Santa Monica and Beverly Hills are expensive; Hollywood and downtown (which is at the eastern end of the city but has great freeway access) are cheaper.

If you were not aware of it, Trip Advisor maintains list of hotels with traveler reviews. To access the lists (which are in order of preference -- best is first) type in the name of the city followed by the word HOTELS in the search box in the upper left corner, .e.g

BEVERLY HILLS HOTELS

SANTA MONICA HOTELS

LOS ANGELES HOTELS

FYI, Los Angeles has many different neighborhoods -- ';downtown'; and ';Hollywood'; are 2 of them. All L.A. neighborhoods are listed under LOS ANGELES HOTELS. However, if you look carefully, you will find a dropdown menu labeled NEIGHBORHOOD on the LOS ANGELES HOTELS page (it%26#39;s near the bottom of the first part of the page, in the center), select it and you will have your choice of neighborhoods. Good luck!

You might want to take a look at either:

Marriott Courtyard Burbank - close to drive to Hollywood, Los Angeles, and other attractions.

marriott.com/hotels/鈥?/a>

Marriott Courtyard Pasadena - walking distance to restaurants, shops, movies and others in Pasadena area. Great area for 30 somethings..and within an hour or less of most of the attractions.

A couple of more questions...

Is there a reason why hotels in the area tend to be more expensive Sunday night as opposed to Friday night? Maybe something is happening, but I did a couple of hotels recommended and sure enough, it%26#39;s about $50 more for a sunday night stay then the friday night stay.

Of the timeframe May-August...which would be the best month to come out? Worse month?

We%26#39;re doing a road trip up to Vancouver Canada, going up through Cali, home through Utah and we want to pick a month that will be the best for all areas, if that is possible.

I%26#39;m not sure what hotels you tried but I tried a few and didn%26#39;t see any difference. I would imagine that hotels that cater to business people instead of tourists would charge less for the weekend (Fri, Sat) than the other days since they have fewer guests at that time.

May is very nice. August tends to be a little hot but being from AZ it shouldn%26#39;t bother you any. The lines at attractions should be less in May since the kids aren%26#39;t out of school yet and fewer people are traveling.
