SF hotel rec

Anyone have recommendations on a hotel near the Moscone Convention Center? I%26#39;m looking for a decent hotel nothing really expensive and in a good area.

Try the SF Marriott. very close. also close but a couple blocks farther are some union square area hotels like the parc 55 and the handlery that are decent clean 4 star ish hotels at a reasonable price.

It helps to be specific!!

How close to the Moscone Center?

How much do you want to pay?

The Hotel Bijou is a small boutique hotel on Mason %26amp; Eddy -- just off of Market Street. It%26#39;s about a 5-block walk. This a 3-star property with rooms starting at around $159 right now. (You don%26#39;t indicate your dates of travel). I%26#39;ve personally stayed at the hotel a couple of times and was very pleased.

A couple of blocks further from the Moscone Center is another reasonably priced property and a favorite here on Trip Advisor:

The Chancellor at 433 Powell Street. Expedia.com is having a sale on this hotel, presently, at $138 per night. The Chancellor is a little less charming than the Bijou -- it%26#39;s just a well-maintained older building with great service from the staff. I have stayed here as well and can vouch for the hotel.

Here are links to reviews for both of these hotels (link and scroll down for reviews):

Good luck!

Perennial question. Same hotels. Try a keyword search for ';Moscone'; and ';hotel'; in the same field. You can throw in ';budget'; for the more specific information. Not surprisingly, people on this forum always recommend ';good'; areas and not bad areas.

';Decent'; and ';nothing really expensive'; are somewhat descriptive, but not helpful enough. Price range in hard dollars is.

Otherwise, we can only respond very generally. As anywhere, particularly in a city with a thriving tourist and business hotel base, prices vary tremendously depending on season that you are traveling and what conventions are in town.

Just to give you an idea, here are some names within the minimum parameters you specified, all within a block or two: Mosser, Milano, Pickwick.

Thanks for your tips and I will now be more specific in my description of what I%26#39;m looking for. The dates are Sept. 26-29. The price range I%26#39;m looking for is $150 and under and it has to be clean and in a safe area!! Walking distance to the Moscone would be the best situation but if there%26#39;s a place that%26#39;s further away but nicer and priced better, I%26#39;m open to that as well. The Grant, Bijou, Mosser are unavailabe at this time. There%26#39;s a big convention going on at this time and a lot of hotels are listed as part of the accommodations for the event. Help!

OK. go to hotelres.com and probably look for hotels in Union Square. You can walk to Moscone from there.

Just look for availablity, since you mention that is is ';convention time';. Then, call their 800 number and ask for help. They have found a hotel for me when even the hotel sites said ';no availablity';. Be sure to tell them you need to be within walking, or easy public transportation distance from Moscone. They are VERY helpful.

I second the suggestion of the Chancellor Hotel.

Certainly walking distance to Convention Centre and also great central location for everything else.

Hotel Beresford or it%26#39;s sister hotel Beresford Arms are probably in your price range. Rooms small but clean. We stayed at the Beresford -and breakfast of cereal ,rolls, fruit etc was included- all you wanted - even could pick up an apple etc for snacking later. Beresford is not far from Chancellor- we passed it walking to our hotel from the BART.

We booked on line and got a Manager%26#39;s Special rate of just over $100 last year in September.

Don%26#39;t have much time. If you%26#39;re looking more for inexpensive, I%26#39;d say check out the Baldwin hotel on Grant Street. Close enough to walk and near other things and definetly on the inexpensive side (but not a dive like some of the ';cheap'; SF hotels (i.e. those in the Tenderloin).

good luck %26amp; enjoy SF
